The Kingdom of Wingbardy is one of the oldest and most powerful of Griffon nations. Located on the southern coast of the continent, it has long been a home to trade, manufacturing and technological innovation. The first to secede from the collapsing Griffonian Empire, Wingbardy today is a shadow of its proud self. With famine, mass unemployment, and rising radicalism, Wingbardy is at the point of both crisis and opportunity for a shakeup.
Will it emerge a reforged power in the Empire, or will its resurgence falter, swallowed up by other rising powers or its old nemesis, the Griffonian Empire?
Lore
Wingbardy Pre-Empire
The Griffonian Empire
Wingbardy was conquered in 705 ALB by Grover I. Along with Kingdom of Aquileia, its conquest marks the beginning of the Griffonian Empire.
For centuries, Wingbardy was the jewel in the Griffonian crown. One of the richest and most prosperous nations in the Empire, it was the envy of the north. However, scheming nobles in the capital of the Griffonian Empire were always looking to undermine it.
Secession
This came to a head in 971 ALB when King Gumberto died under suspicious circumstances whilst attending a party in Griffenheim. His son, the newly crowned King Garibald Talonuel III, demanded that the lords of Griffenheim and the Imperial Heartlands launch a full investigation into the incident, but his demands fell on deaf ears. In protest, Wingbardy officially seceded from the Empire, taking its former vassals of the Duchy of Talouse, the County of Francistria, and the Barony of Arantiga.
This move would trigger the collapse of the Griffonian Empire. The collapse decimated the Empire's economy, and Wingbardy's economy along with it. A long and bloody war with the Falcorian Queendom to unite the south won them their greatest city of Falcor, but at a terrible cost.
The Falcor War
The Falcor War started on the 28th of July 985. For years since independence, tensions between Falcor and Wingbardy had been rising over where exactly their border lies. Under the empire, there was a lot of blur between the borders, with citizens of each side living in towns and villages either side. Gradually both nations attempted to lock down what they saw as their border. This led to clashes between border guards on each side and riots in the border towns. Both sides, of course, blamed the other of encroaching on their territory and poured more troops in to try and secure the land.
On the 28th of July, fighting broke out between Wingbardian and Falcorian infantry regiments in the border town of Meranclawo. Both sides moved reinforcements into the battle. The battle spread out either side of the town. Before anyone knew it, Wingbardy was marching on Falcor.
By December, Wingbardy was at the gates of Falcor.
The war remained relatively stalemated with neither side gaining or losing significant ground until 24 October 987, when Falcor launched a counter offensive in the north at the Battle of Clawporett, which broke through the Wingbardian lines and sent the Wingbardian 2nd Army into a full route. Falcor troops poured across the border and pushed deep into Wingbardy nearly unopposed, only to come to a stop in November at the river Piumave which flooded heavily in a freak storm, most of the Wingbardian army having made it across just in time. This gave Wingbardy the chance it needed to dig in and reorganise. However, this advance left Wingbardy's left flank wide open to Falcor, and they preceded to take advantage of it.
However, the Wingbardians managed to halt the advance in the 3rd Battle of Asbolus Forest.
This lasted until 24 October 989 where Wingbardy launched an offensive all along the line. The Garibald Offensive, named after the king, managed to break through the demoralised and out of supply Falcorian lines and retake large amounts of land. The Falcor 1st Army entirely surrendered at the Battle of Garibald Gergamo (a town named after the King's grandfather). Francistria also joined the war on Wingbardy's side. Falcor quickly sorted an armistice that was signed on 11 November.
By that point, Falcor was in turmoil, at the mercy of Wingbardy, and the southern Jo-Jo islands seceded to join Sicameon.
Present Day
Economic decline, famine and political instability have left national unity low and radical factions vying for power. The fascist PNF lead by Giulio Beakolini and the communist PCW lead by Antonino Proletarino are drawing griffons from all walks of life to their cause as they offer an alternative to the ineffective governments of the past.
Beakolini, a silver-tongued, aggressive speaker speaks of his desire to make Wingbardy great again. A radical socialist at heart, he fell out with the first communist thinkers and decided to make his own party and ideology. Fascism, as he named it, was welcomed among the disenfranchised veterans of the Falcor war and the more conservative griffons left in despair over the economic crisis. Unhappy with the current political deadlock, he has announced a march on Karthin in an attempt to seize power from the elected government with popular support.
With the announced march drawing close, Antonino Proletarino and his communist followers have sworn to stop the fascists, and prevent their thuggery by any means necessary, even violence.
However, King Garibald Talonuel III still holds power and most of the nation is on his side. It is he who has the final say in how his nation goes. Whether they side with the fascists, or crackdown on both radical parties, the future of Wingbardy is in his talons.

Royal Support
As soon as The Royal Intervention is completed, a set of decisions regarding Garibaldi's support amongst the people will become visible. Your objective is to reach more than 50 Popular Support so that you can take the focus Viva il Re, as indicated in the image, the maximum amount of support is based on the party popularity of the monarchists (non-aligned). If the timer for the Anti-Monarchist Uprising runs out, a civil war against the harmonists will be ignited.
To help you reach the desired support, you will have a number of focuses and decisions that will help you:
- Create a Loyal Government will give you 150 pp and unlock three powerful advisors which can be obtained for 50 pp each and will give +0.10 daily support for Non-Aligned.
- Secure Army Loyalty and Placate the Intellectuals will both give 5% NA popularity and increase your minimum support by 5.
- Reach out to the Common Griffon will give you a huge lump sum of 250 pp and will unlock the decisions regarding Royal Support.
- Speak to the Nation: Gives 10 Support, 3% NA popularity and adds 14 days to the timer;
- Launch Newspaper Campaign: Gives 10 Support, temporarily increases stability and na support and adds 21 days to the timer
- Clamp Down on Socialist Newspapers: Gives 25 Support, temporarily decreases stability and communist support and adds 21 days to the timer;
- Visit Local Workers: Gives 15 Support, temporarily raises production efficiency and adds 21 days to the timer;
- Crackdown on the Fascists: Gives 10 Support, temporarily decreases stability and supremacy support and adds 21 days to the timer;
Throughout the duration of the crisis a number of random events will fire which will raise or lower the popularity of the various parties.
Even after finishing Viva il Re these decisions will not disappear, this is because Support can still rise and fall and you will have a scaling modifier which will give you more Political Power Gain, Stability and Daily NA Popularity the higher your Support is.

Political Focuses
Rally the Anti-Fascists
Losing faith in the King and the Rightist leadership to prevent the fascists from ending Wingbardian Democracy, The Far Left, Liberals, and Centrists have united to resist the reactionaries, ushering Wingbardy into a Civil War. The Tree then splits between aiding the radicals or more moderate resistance. The Radicals provide 4 Red Guards, a bonus to Industry, and possible aid from Stalliongrad. The moderates in comparison grant +10% Stability, additional Generals, and 3 Carabinieri.
You will have 82 days from the start to do the focuses. When you finish the first focus, you will then get 7 Decisions that cost 10 PP each to solidify some states under the Revolution when war breaks out. You will only have Wrobert if you ignore this mechanic.
When the War ends, the path depends on if communism or Harmony has more support. If Communism is, You can choose either the hardline Communists who will purge the moderates and Right, as well as to create a communist faction or not. They will gain wargoals on Southwest Griffonia, Aqueilia, and the Empire. The Socialists, by comparison will work with Social Democrats and have the choices to form an alliance with Prywhen, non-supremecist Asterion, join the Republican Pact, or Form a Socialist Karthin Pact.
The Social Democrats, will co-opt the Socialist Party to become more moderate and has the same Forign Policy choices. Lastly, the Center Republicans will maintain the status quo of the old kingdom, with exception to said king. Same FoPo as the Socialists and Democratic Socialists. With exception to a new path, where they can gain war goals to reforge the ancient Karthin Empire under a Republic.
Declare Martial Law
One griff has the power to stop Beakolini's march: Garibaldi Talounel, the soldier king. At request of the Prime Minister the king will declare martial law and send in the military to fight the fascists. This will lower stability and make it so supremacy support is lowered for half an year.
The Royal Intervention
Parliament has proved itself ineffective in managing the country, the king has decided to assume full legislative and executive powers and will save the nation himself. Completing the first focus will immediately get rid of the Political Deadlock National Spirit, but it will also saddle you with a severe penalty to political power gain. It will also unlock your other various branches: industrial, military and the invasion of Zebrica (Coming Soon TM).
The mechanics around Royal Support will be unlocked (see #Garibaldi's Mechanics for more details).
The next few focuses will be centred around gathering enough popular support so that the king may reign uninterrupted. They will give Support, raise Non-Aligned popularity and give a huge amount of political power. Create a Loyal Government will unlock 3 new advisors that can be hired for the low cost of 50 pp. Once you have at least 51 Support Viva il Re can be taken, finishing it will make Garibaldi finally become the leader of the nation, eliminating the risk of a civil war; it will also allow you to start working on #The Alter of the Fatherland.
With the king's position secure, several branches will be unlocked. On the right side, you can find a small branch which will give bonuses to research and give decisions to invest in the navy. On the left, you will find a branch where Garibaldi can either appease the liberals or become more absolutist (gaining increased political power). To the far left lay a series of focuses that will weaken the Stilted Education and Economic Crisis national spirits.
In the centre you will have One Night in Griffenheim which will unlock decisions to investigate the murder of Garibaldi's father and to begin tutoring his hopeless heir (#Garibaldi's Mechanics). It'll also allow you to progress down one of the final three paths of your political tree:
- Bastion of the South will grant you a large +15% defence and attack on core territory as well as many factories.
- Wingbardy Rises will give wargoals on Falcor, Griffonstone and Rumare as well as Arantiga, Talouse and Francistria if they are not in your faction. Finally you will be able to core most of the south and receive a puppet wargoal against the Griffonian Empire.
- The Chiazbeacle Pact will seek an alliance with a supremacists or monarchist Aquileia. Part of this will include reaching a compromise regarding the Tarrin region and attempting to make both Griffonstone and Aquileia join the Karthinian Pact. You will gain wargoals on Blackrock's Bandits and the Griffonian Empire.

Regia Marina
The naval branch gives standard research bonuses for most naval technologies, and a choice between focusing on a high seas fleet or a submarine fleet. The left side gives Dockyards and a bonus to Naval Projection, while the Right gives bonuses for Subs and Research bonuses for your High Seas fleets as well. The middle branch gives access to the "Froggriffs," which give bonuses to Marines, and Research Bonuses for Transports and Marines.
Regia Aeronautica
The Air Force focus tree focuses mainly on building up Wingbardy's near non-existent air force, through the granting of technologies, research buffs, air bases, and the addition of planes to the national stockpile.
Regio Esercito
Completing the Army Focus tree will enable you to get rid of your "Outdated Army" spirit. Completing the focuses, "The Royal Academy of Clawssino" and "Division Reformation" will reduce the effects. To completely negate "Outdated Army" you must choose between "Promote Young Officers" or "Old Ideas", which give Mobile Warfare/Superior Firepower and Grand Battleplan/Mass Assault research bonuses respectively, and then complete either "Modern Warfare" or "Old Yet New" which will completely remove "Outdated Army.

Biography: Known as the 'Soldier King' due to his leadership during the Falcor War, Garibald Talonuel di Almieri is well respected and beloved by the Wingbardian griffons. In 972 ALB his father, King Gumberto, was murdered in the Imperial Palace in Griffenheim while attending a party for the young Grover V. The newly crowned Garibald demanded justice but was given none. In protest he severed all ties with the Empire, declaring Wingbardy to be independent for the first time in over a century. The rest of the empire soon took Wingbardy's lead, quickly leading to the Empire's collapse. The first few years of independence was prosperous for Wingbardy, however a border dispute with Falcor in 985 lead to four long and bloody years of conflict that scarred Wingbardy to this day. During the war, King Garibald Talonuel III was known to often visit the frontline and had significant support among his troops. However, the years since the war have only seen Wingbardy's situation grown worse. Failed government after failed government, along with a crippled economy, has lead to many Wingbardians demanding that he step in and find a way to resolve their situation. With the rise of Fascism and Communism, it became clear that only he could decide Wingbardy's future. He sees his son, Gumberto, as a disappointment and secretly fears for the future of the monarchy unless his son can better himself. In the King's free time he is an avid stamp collector. His collection of postal stamps is the largest in the world.

Anti-Fascist Pacifist

Born: 16th November 946
Biography: Gallo Ventriglio graduated from the University of Talonin with a degree in law. He became a lawyer and solicitor and eventually entered politics, becoming a councillor and then mayor of the town of Plumerolo. When the Falcor War broke out, he joined anti-war movements and denounced the conflict that would claim the life of his son, Giovanni Ventriglio, who was shot down while on a bombing mission over Falcor. In recent years, he was appointed Prime Minister after the collapse of the Gonomi government. His outspokenness against Beakolini's fascist movement has lead to many hoping for a quick crackdown of the Blackwings. |

Priest of Boreas
|
Born: 26th November 952 ALB, Gullagirone, Wingbardy
Biography: Born to a religious family in rural Wingbardy, Luigi Guturzo was destined to follow his family into the ranks of the ecclesiastics. He was ordained as a priest of Boreas in 975 and served as a teacher of philosophical and theological studies in his hometown, eventually getting a doctorate in the subject from the Archonical University of Karthin. While teaching in his hometown he got a first taste of politics where in 986 he became vice-mayor of Gullagirone, a position he would serve in until 990. He was one of the founding members of the Partito Popolare Wingbardo in 990. In the party's first election it won 20% of the vote at 100 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, surprising many observers. The PPW quickly grew to be a colossal political force in the nation and it quickly found itself becoming the key for the formation of any government. However liberal and socialist parties were wary of it, seeing it as subservient to the Prelate of Karthin, and some even rumoured that it was loyal to the Archons and wished to return to the Empire. The latter was untrue however, as Luigi Guturzo would always believe in Wingbardian independence. However, Luigi Guturzo and the Prelate of Karthin where the two factors that led to the party's hard stance of never working with socialists. This is seen as one of the key contributing factors to the collapse of the Wingbardian political system. Luigi Guturzo is also staunchly anti-fascist and often speaks out against fascism, the PNF, and Giulio Beakolini. Luigi Guturzo likes to collect antique ceramic art during his spare time and often helps out with charity causes. He is respected and popular among the supporters of the PPW and is committed to building a better Wingbardy based on charity, compassion, and faith. Portrait By: MonAx |

Born: 22nd October 977
Biography: Antonino Proletarino is a truly polarizing name on the Wingbardian left. Born to poor dockworkers in Wrobert, he grew up filled with hatred towards the wealthy who lived far better lives. When the Winter Revolution broke out in Severyana, he volunteered to join the army, and was awestruck by Steel Stallion's leadership. After Stallion's tragic death, he returned to Wingbardy and quickly rose to leadership of the nascent Partito Comunista Wingbardo. He is determined to remake Wingbardy into a glorious Workers' Empire. But known to almost no one are his secret lust for power and his desire to oppress those who once oppressed him. He knows this is wrong and against the spirit of Communism, but it's so very tempting... Only time will tell if he will soften his stance, stay the course, or make Stallion look like a Harmonist." |

Aspiring Duce
After the first portrait change is replaced with:
|
Giulio Beakolini was born to a middle class family in 954, and from early age, he had a deep interest in politics. His family's republican leanings made them ardent supporters of the Republican Revolution in Griffonia, and their eventual defeat did not weaken, but rather intensify, young Giulio's support for the cause, especially the more radical left branches of the movement. During his younger years, he worked as a journalist and became a famous firebrand within the left wing of Wingbardian politics.
The Falcorian war, however, turned into a watershed moment for the young Beakolini, and unlike most of his peer, he was in full support of the war. Through it, he saw the workers being empowered through the fighting and a chance to bring together a divided land. This led to him being ostracized as a warmongerer, and he ended up fired, being told he could go fight the war himself if he viewed it as something good. Beakolini chose to take the insult literally and joined the Wingbardian army, where his zeal and determination let him become part of the elite Wingbardian Bersaglieri. When peace came, he was a changed griff, and whereas many had been broken on the battlefield, he had found his purpose. He returned to writing, only this time for his own ideology, and ever since then, he has tirelessly written for and organized his own political movement; the 'Blackwings'. He has realized that republicanism is weak and corrupt, socialism a false idol that will break apart the nation. The new path forward organizes the entire nation as one entity, where all griffs are soldiers for Wingbardy's glory. He has named this movement Fascism, and under it, he will see Wingbardy rise to become the master of Griffonia, or die trying. |
