Patch 2.3.X
The 2.3.X series of patches began in November of 2024, shortly before the release of the Götterdämmerung DLC, and lasted until April of 2025, after the release of Graveyard of Empires DLC.
The series focuses mostly on various bug fixes and tweaks, both for the content added in 2.3, and Götterdämmerung. The April Fool's patch is a crossover with Anbennar, a mod for Europa Universalis IV. An elf and his horse end up magically transported to this world, ending up somewhere near Tobuck. Very quickly, they gain the trust of the locals, and embark on a crusade to spread their faith across the continent. Meanwhile, Princess Celestia of Equestria mysteriously disappears. What is she up to? Find out in Anbennar.

14.4.4 "The Herald and The Beast"
Released on 2025-04-01 with checksum 8415
The Equestria at War team presents:
The Herald and the Beast
It is often said that if one has faith in their beliefs, they can overcome any obstacle. Faith in oneself, one's comrades-in-arms, or even in the divine can bring out the best in people, given the correct circumstances. If believing in something to such a degree could alter fate itself, well, what would you do with that power? Would you use it to help others, or to reclaim what you had lost? Would you strive for the safety and well-being of all creatures under the sun, or pursue your ideals to the point that reality itself shifts to fit your worldview?
Once the sands of time have reached their end, will you be happy once it is time for you to go?

Editor notes
- This update is a crossover with Anbennar, a fantasy themed mod for Europa Universalis IV. If you wish to play it, in addition to the base game, you also need a few DLC's listed on their workshop page on the right. The Rights of Man DLC has recently been integrated into the base game and does not need to be purchased separately.
- For some time after release, the MLP-themed content was a part of the main Anbennar mod. On 29th of April it was moved to a separate mod.
- Like in 2024, the game rule is implemented from the start, allowing you to disable most of the April Fool's content. It is enabled by default, which will change after the post-April Fool's patch.
- The number of the update is a reference to the starting year of both EU4 and Anbennar, 1444.
- Mission trees are a reference to the EU4 mechanic, similar to focus trees in some regards. The main difference seems to be that missions are game objectives to fulfill, after which you gain the stated reward instantly, while focuses always require some time to complete (unless they are autocompleted by a focus), and many of them don't have additional requirements besides completing earlier focuses in the tree.
- The special focus trees for Tobuck and Talarayi still behave closer to typical EaW focus trees than to EU4 mission trees.
- The "outsourced" keyword makes a return, indicating that Equestria's content can be found in the Anbennar mod. However, in EaW Princess Celestia (including her various variants) gets different portraits to indicate being replaced by her sister during her adventures in the world of Anbennar.
- If you start the game as any nation other than Tobuck, you will be able to switch via an event. Talarayi's content doesn't start for a few years, so you should play as Tobuck while you wait.
- "Removed Herobrine" joke returns from the 1.9.6.2 and 22.00.1.1 patch notes.
- ITA is the tag for Italy in the non-EaW version of HoI4. As part of this patch, Wingbardy is completely replaced by Italy, inhabited by humans. Any references to Wingbardy, their characters, their cities, etc. were replaced by their Italian counterparts. Their objectives and gameplay is identical to that of Wingbardy, however.
- While countries in EaW often take some inspiration from the real world, Wingbardy has had a reputation of being basically the Griffonian version of Italy (so-called "expy"). This change makes fun of it, by taking that concept to the next level.
- "Various shader changes" refers to the change of the map style, giving it more pronounced borders, to make it closer in style to EU4.
- Both Italy and shader changes are not included in the game rule. They are forced on all players of this version and are gone in patch 2.3.2.
- There are submods that bring those back: Italy Submod, and April Fools 2025 EAW map
- Not mentioned in the changelog:
- Mymy from Ongezellig takes over Feathisian South Zebrides, renames the capital city to Japsterdam, the country to Dutch South Zebrides, and changes their flag to that of Dutch East India Company. Meanwhile, Coco becomes the leader of the harmonic party in Zuid-Zebrikaansche Vrystaat. Due to a bug (fixed in 2.3.2), the latter country is still ruled by the non-aligned party, so it's unlikely you would see Coco in a regular playthrough. Maya has not been transported to the EaW world and is safe at home.
- Star Father's portrait from 22.00.1.1 makes a return.
- Both of the above were not part of the game rule at the time of the release. The former was integrated into the game rule in 2.3.2. The latter has been removed completely, perhaps until next year's April Fools'.
