“ | The heirs of the ancient Viking Sea-Kings, the Olenians of Chital now face a threat to their cultural and political hegemony greater than any Southern revolt or religious awakening: the dissent of their own Yaril. Benjen V, newly coronated following the death of his brother and father, formed the Council of Seven to assuage concerns of open revolt from Chital's native Hindians, but the council now stands on the edge of open revolt itself. Southern schemers, firebrand reformists, and an aging bureaucracy all grapple for the Kind Viking's approval, all the while extremists of Northern and Southern stripes plot his demise. Can Benjen and his council survive, or will they fall like the Deerlaw before them?

The Founding of Chital - Built of Conflict and Compromise
Like so many of the countries in the Hindian subcontinent, the Yarildom of Chital was built upon the backs of Hindian thralls and their Olenian invaders, a dichotomy that continues to characterize the very fabric of the realm. Cnoof and Ivor, two brothers from Olenia who landed in the subcontinent in 434 ALB, were the first to carve out fiefdoms of their own amongst the fractured Hindian kingdoms, their goal the godly "Deerlaw", dominion over all the mountains, jungles, and plains of Hindia. Cnoof met his end over a gorge in Stagpal, but his brother continued to conquer, and conquer he did, placing thousands of leagues worth of new territory into the hands of vicious commanders and disgraced nobles who had taken the great voyage from Olenia.
Rivalry with Uusi Hirvimaa, Subdenbeg's Invasion
The seeds for Chitali independence, then, were sown by one of those viking commanders, one Benjen I Kudlinen, who slowly and steadily bolstered his own power at the expense of that of the Sea-Kings. As the island stronghold of Uusi Hirvimaa became the domain of the Sea-Kings, the Kudlinens built a parallel seat of power across the sea in Ostkranbi, and soon the word of the Kudlinens became far more powerful than any decree from their rightful liege lord.
Come 981 ALB, Subdenbeg, the last Sea-King of the line of Ivor, set off on a voyage to south to reconquer Ostkranbi and demonstrate to the Chitali that his rule over Hindia was not only stronger than the Kudlinen hold, but vastly superior. Fate saw it differently, as a brilliant naval assault by the young marshal Jakob Kudlinen, the brother of Yaril Benjen IV, forced Subdenbeg's forces to retreat into a perilous storm at sea. Of that Sea-King nothing was ever heard from again, and with their Yarildom's independence secured, Benjen IV and Jakob the Grey began to work fully towards Chital's transformation into an industrialized hegemon.
Present Day
Such hegemony, however, came within the framework of an absolutist system, administered by ruthlessly efficient bureaucrats like Benjen Davirtannen and his RMEC, which set forth to make the lofty plans of the Benjen IV Industrial Bureau into realities. Not only was the economic transition brutal, but it was overseen by a Oleno-Hindian noble class intent on integrating the rebellious natives of the south and squashing any ideas among them of a continuation of their "Great Struggle" against their viking overlords.
When Benjen IV died, he was replaced by his militant viking son, Aatto, who failed to stem the tide of dissent and saw open revolts in the South backed by the Doelhi Confederation. Aatto, although postpoing a complete civil war through his militant tactics, fell victim to them himself as he was slain by a Southern rebel leader in 1001. Benjen V Kudlinen, Benjen IV's second son and a notoriously soft steward, took the reigns of governance, attempting to continue his father's industrializing and modernizing reforms while pursuing a more mild-mannered policy with the native Hindians. A new Council of Seven, made up of three native and three Olenian lords would guide him, from the sneering noble-turned-reformer Ivar Hoversholm to the tireless warrior priest Bhushan Gurat to old faces like Benjen Davirtannen and Jakob the Grey. Now, the Council has shifted from a vehicle for Benjen's harmonic ideals to one of consistent political conflict and a world of courtly intrigue, one the Yaril cannot navigate without significant sacrifice, and danger that the end of his reign may echo that of his brother.
Geography
National focus
- Main article: Chitali national focus tree
Chital's focus tree consists of four branches: an industrial tree, an army tree, a navy tree and a political tree.
At the start of the game, only the political tree can be completed. After completing "The Royal Progress", the rest of the tree opens up.
Political
The initial political focus tree overall focuses on deciding which member of the Council of Seven should gain control of Chital. The left branch of the tree focuses on dealing with the Axis of Chital, while the right branch focuses on the pro-Yaril faction. The center branch focuses on industry and research. After completing "The Royal Progress", a new political focus tree will appear based on the influence of the council members. For that, see Paths and The Hindian Wars.
The forefathers of Chital once had the greatest fleet of any nation. Now, it is in a very pitiful state, and has to reform, or else Chital has little to no change to wage war and conquer overseas. The naval focus tree starts with a choice of whether to focus on submarines, the modern equivalent to Vikingar, or on battleships, the continuation of the ancient Sea Kings. The center-left branch focuses on strengthening the military capacity of the fleet, whereas the center-right branch focuses on improving the shipbuilding economy.
Army
The army focus tree is split into two mutually exclusive branches. The left branch will be chosen if any of the Axis of Chital are in power. Otherwise, the right branch will be chosen. There is also a central branch focused on air force.
Industrial
The industrial focus tree starts with a choice between two foci: The Northern Approach and The Southern Strategy. Which one the player can choose mainly depends on their political path:
- If Jakob the Gray is in power, only The Northern Approach will be available;
- If either Bushan Gurat or Hira Ramachan are in power, only The Southern Strategy will be available;
- If Eva Pillai or Benjen V are in power, then it will depend on whether Kahnil's Southern Roots or Baronnen's Northern Innovation was taken in the initial political focus tree;
- If Ivar Hoversholm is in power, both foci will be available.
The left branch of the tree focuses on improving literacy and science development, whereas the right branch focuses on industrialising the nation by building more factories and increasing rubber production. The center branch gives the player options regarding industrial regulations, external trade and labour unions. The final focus finishes Chital's modernisation and adds an additional research slot.
Post-Hindian Wars
After The Hindian Wars conclude, a new focus tree unlocks, focused on consolidating Hindia and reclaiming past territories of Deerlaw. Overall, the following nations can be annexed, conquered and cored through this focus tree:
- Doelhi Confederation
- Yarildom of Sambar
- Barasingha
- Stagpal
- Llambet (can also be released as a protectorate if Chital isn't supremacist)
- Protectorate of Uusi Hirvimaa
Notable foci:
- Deerkind Has Stood Up! - Forms a faction (Ostkranbi Alliance), forms Hindia, and allows coring of all Hindian Wars participants and Uusi Hirvimaa.
- Reapproach Macawia - Invites Macawia (if they are harmonist or neutral) into the Ostkranbi Alliance (can't be done as Eva Pillai or as a communist/supremacist nation).
External Policy
After completing the post-Hindian Wars focus tree, which is shared with all paths, Chital can finally secure its interests outside the borders of Hindia by interacting with other nations and cultures, be it Kiria, the Roaman Kaiserate, or even the nations of Griffonia, like Gryphus or Austurland. Unlike the post-Hindian Wars focus tree, every path has it's own unique external policy.
Eva Pillai's external policy
Between the lands of Griffonia and northern Zebrica lies Macawia, a nation of ex-pirates which uses its strategic position to dominate trade in the region. Because of this, Macawia comes into direct conflict with an Eva-lead Chital, a capitalist nation whose economy is dependant on the spice trade, which flows through Macawian-dominated seas. Therefore, Eva's external policy focuses on gradually gaining dominance against Macawia, both economically and militarily, by means of embargo, political influence, and eventually war.
Benjen's external policy
The external policy of the reformists focuses on maintaining harmony all around the world. In order to spread and protect harmony on such a large scale, Chital can form the friendship corps (with the focus Chitali Friendship Corps). They can also align themselves with Kiria, another harmonist nation with a similar worldview, although stagnated by a self-imposed "silence". Chital's external policy with them focuses on removing the silence, which ends with a mutual guarantee between the two nations (Note: they will not join your faction, meaning that they will not join your offensive wars, but they will join defensive wars). After that, Chital can get puppet wargoals on the following nations if they are supremacist:
- Colthaginian Republic
- Free Towns of Gryphus
- Austurland (can also be declared on if Gulrain Lisvaldr is the country leader)
- Barrad Magocracy (must have also annexed Seguro or Hjarthólar)
Jakob's external policy
Jakob's external policy focuses on uniting all the deer (cervidaean) nations to form a true deerlaw and reclaiming the legacy of raiding. Overall, the following nations can be conquered through the given focuses:
Hoversholm's external policy
The Hoversholmist external policy focuses on "liberating" the Kirin from the silence. This is done by increasing recruitment and making concessions to Macawia. After doing this, Chital will declare war on Kiria. After winning the war, the player can release a puppet Hoversholmist-Kiria, which will have all of its cores except Fragrance Intel, Pearl Peninsula, and Auburn Isle, which are ceded to Macawia, because of the aforementioned concessions.
Hira's external policy
South of Chital lies Kiria, a powerful and large nation of Kirin which potentially poses significant threat to the well-being of Chital. While a Hira-lead Chital can't directly wage war against Kiria, it can at the very least improve its defensive position by expanding the frontline of the border of the Ostkranbi alliance. This is done by initiating a bombing in the border between Chital and Taungpau, and blaming it on Taungpau, hence giving Chital a puppet wargoal against them. Afterwards, a Taungpau protectorate can be formed. Chital can also ally with the Roaman Kaiserate, a nation bordering Kiria, which will then declare war against the following nations:
Bhushan's foreign policy
Bhushan views the Kirin, and their close allies, Taungpau, as demons who are not only capable of destroying the deer of Hindia, but are also actively searching for opportunities to do so. As such, he increases both conscription and mobilization, rallies the entire nation for the upcoming storm, and finally declares a holy war against the Kirin and Taungpau.

The Kind Viking
|
Born: 6th of June, 975 in Ostkranbi
Biography: They say that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, and that cannot be more true for Benjen V Kudlinen, Yaril of Chital and staunch reformist, beset on all sides by scheming nobles, traitorous former allies, and heartless revolutionaries. Benjen V was never a warrior like the old Sea-Kings of the continent, raiders who ravaged the Eastern seaboard of Zebrica and subjugated the native deer under their rule from Sambar to Doehli. Born in Ostkranbi, the capital of Chital, to Benjen IV Kudlinen, Benjen would be trained in stewardship from a young age. An intelligent and soft-spoken young deer, he was quick to make friends with numerous noble children and even the older deer at court, and was consistently applauded by his father, even if he was not exactly the most diligent of deer. Even when his father died in 998, and his brother, Aatto, became Yaril of Chital, Benjen remained gregarious and ready to take up the mantle of chief advisor to his brother. The Yaril's life, however, would soon come crashing down. Aatto died in 1001 pacifying native rebels, and Benjen was forced to carry on the torch of the Kudlinen Dynasty. His chief advisors annuled his engagement to his fiancé, a commondeer, and Benjen was left ruling over a Yarildom that condemned him as a fat steward and doe-ish coward - "The Kind Viking". Slowly replacing Aatto's advisors with his own old friends, Benjen's reign culminated in the establishment of the Council of Seven in 1003 - meant to serve as a united advisory council of both Hindian and Olenian nobles, all originally loyal to the Yaril. Unfortunately, his opposition on the council began to resent him, and three of his greatest adversaries on it formed the Axis of Chital, to curtail what they believed to be his blatant abuses of power and failure to bring reform to Chital. With the Council becoming more and more hostile, it seems Benjen will need to act fast if he wants to ensure the survival of Chital - and his dynasty. Portrait By: MonAx |

Born: 13th of June, 974 in Gondeerana
Biography: Eva Pillai, more then any other deer, is the archetype of the new generation of Chitali leadership that has risen to prominence under Benjen V and his Council of Seven. The daughter of the rich Thane of Gondeerana, a classical Olenio-Hindian nobledeer, and his native Hindian wife, Eva was raised in a diverse environment unseen in much of Chital's elite, an environment that allowed her to become heir to the throne among natives and settlers both. Following graduation from the premier university of Chital's southern regions, Eva soon took control of the court of her father, transforming the dreary Thane's hall into a vibrant blend of two cultures, a cosmopolitan sanctuary that brought caravans and tourists a plenty to view the Southern Jewel's transformation. When her father went to war to fight for Yaril Aatto, Eva remained as a de-facto regent, and began to take over the economic matters of the city as well. Her university-trained business expertise and a flood of Equestrian and Macawian advisors brought unprecedented growth to Gondeerana as market outreach and investment soared. When her father was eventually killed in the same doomed assault that brought an end to Yaril Aatto's reign, Eva, only Lady of Gondeerana in her own right for a few days, was immediately invited to Benjen V's new council, and from then on, has continued to serve as a stalwart defender of cultural unity, cosmopolitan ideals, and unbridled Capitalism. The Most Boring Deer in Chital
|
Born: 17th of February, 955 in Prauma
Biography: If you have ever heard of Benjen Davirtannen (a difficult feat, as he is completely vacant from the public sphere and oft-confused with the Yarils he is named for), you would know him as one of the most important public servants and advisors in Chital in the last century. He buildt the Benjen IV Industrial Bureau and brought social reform and modernization during the Great Struggle in Hindia, preventing revolution in the South, penned lucrative contracts with Equestrian conglomerates and Griffonian trade companies that saw wealth flow into Chital's coastal hubs and Gondeerana at the meeting of the rivers. Suave, personable, and empathetic, those who know the old deer have only praise to lay at his hooves, and his workers know some of the finest conditions this side of the globe. One of the leaders of the Reformist movement, his position in politics was well-entrenched during the rule of Benjen IV, Aatto, and Benjen V, even striking up a personal friendship with Ivar Hoversholm, another well-known reformist. Now as Chief Minister of a system long since in the making, slow measured progress is being made on the path to harmony, to modernization. To a liberal order controlled not by the bully pulpit of demagogues or by faux-democratic despot deriving its power from the cycles of sun and moon, but by calm, reasonable, and considerate bureaucrats. The Chital that has been created is far different from that of before, yet Davirtannen reminds the same as he always been. Loyal to the Yaril, and forever ready to take as many slow steps as needed to painstakingly measured reform and intellectual governance to Chital and Hindia. Portrait By: Tofus |

|
Born: 9th of September, 979 in Ensuu
Biography: Sometimes, harmony just isn't harmonic. Bridges are burned, friendships are broken, and disunity lies palpable in the air; all occurances Raili Ninessen is all too familiar with. What use do words have against threats so existential to the very stability of harmony they seek to shatter its fabric entirely? As one cannot tolerate intolerance, the harmonic cannot tolerate the unharmonic. When Raili Ninessen first arrived at the Ostkranbi court, she was shunned as a traitor to the Olenian order, a dissident and a troublemaker, but above all, an activist dedicated to the fall of the monarchy in Chital. Ninessen's first papers and orations demonstrated limited appeal for Equestrianism, especially if it involved the replacement of a traditionalist Olenian monarchy with some new, diverse dynasty. Dismayed at her lack of support and the possibility of treason charges, Ninessen departed for Equestria, where she learned and studied the princesses' response to the rise of Chrysalis and return of Nightmare Moon. The strength of harmonic action and dedication of the ponies to their ideals bolstered Ninessen's own fervor, and the second time she arrived at court, her mannerisms were much more ruthless. With the death of Yarils Benjen IV and Aatto, Ninessen found Benjen V a willing ear for harmonic ideals, and a promising candidate for the role of an Equestrianist prince. With the support of the court's firebrand reformists, Ninessen's faction at court superseded Ivar Hoversholm's as the main power on the left... much ire surrounds the doe and her band, ruthless in their criticism and driven in their pursuit of radical harmony, but one thing is certain: she is winning. Born: 8th of July, 943 in Kanelimpra
Biography: Jakob "the Grey" Kudlinen - younger brother of Benjen IV, gracious and loyal uncle of Benjen V and his brother Aatto, and now, the most powerful deer in Chital. Born two years after the heir to the throne, Benjen IV Kudlinen, Jakob the Grey has always been second-in-consideration - for Yaril of Chital, for chief of Chital's great Viking navy and army, and then, for Chief Minister with the establishment of Council of Seven. While his brother sought to bring fire and blood into the lands of the natives and the glories of the industrial revolution into the lands of Chital, Jakob was right beside him, with an exemplary education in Macawia's top naval academies. A fierce raider before the practice was eventually discouraged by the internationalist Benjen IV, Jakob soon became a war hero to the people of Chital as he fought the influence of Macawian pirates and upstart Hindian revolutionaries through the reign of three Yarils. Now, however, life for Jakob is much different. A military deer at heart, he has found himself in the upper echelons of government, whispering into the ear of Benjen V and promoting a return to the traditions that made Chital great at every turn. A loyalist to Benjen IV, Jakob has never kept his clear resistance to the Yaril's reformist views silent, and with the aid of extremist military elements, his new base of power, he has become the most prominent right-wing royalist in all of Chital. If he can balance his far-right general staff and the hostility of an increasingly rebellious Yaril toward the traditionalists, Jakob will not only be enshrined in Chital's futures as a war hero, but as the greatest statesdeer to grace the nation. Narcissistic Visionary
|
Born: 29th of July, 966 in Hamaholm
Biography: Has there ever been a deer as great, as visionary, as wholly noble in his pursuit for justice, prosperity, and popular will as Ivar Hoversholm? And yet, has there even been a deer so ignobly cast down, so forced to stoop to the level of those traitors and vipers who surrounded him? Born in Hamaholm in the Thanedom of Valdeland to a caring noble family, Ivar Hoversholm was considered a gifted child from birth - a fact that would propel him into the politics of the nation's capital. Ivar and his father, Elik, became voices of reformism and the rule of law on then Yaril Benjen IV's council, and when Elik resigned his courtly duties out of old age in 1000, Ivar became even more influential in the coastal nation's court. Close friendships with industrialist Benjen Davirtannen and then heir to throne Benjen Kudlinen made Ivar a prime candidate for a spot on Yaril's advisory council, which would eventually become the Council of Seven in 1003. However, with the establishment of the Council of Seven, came Ivar's undoing. Hoversholm, ever the opportunist, saw in the Council the instrument of true reformism, and in a midnight coup, demanded Benjen grant him the long-vacant post of Chief Minister and leadership of the body. Benjen, astonished by what he believed to be a blatant power-grab, expelled Hoversholm from his inner circle and shattered his political influence. Hoversholm, convinced of a conspiracy against him, privately denounced the monarchy, and found safety in the Axis of Chital - more reactionary than the Yaril, but as a road to power in Chital, second to none. Now, Hoversholm's reliance on the Axis as the instrument of his vengeance against Benjen has succeded, but whether Hoversholm's reforms can succeed is another tale entirely. |

Scheming Spymistress
|
Born: 22nd of November, 976 in Haarihus
Biography: Too many in Chital are born with blue blood and the blessing of Ukko, with not a connection in their life to the plight of those at the bottom. The same cannot be said for Hira Ramachan. Plucked from obscurity and relative poverty, Hira first rose to prominence in the south following the appointment of her father, Jheir, as Mayor of Haarihus during Aatto's great pacification of the southern lands. From then, she was sent to Ostkranbi to plead for further privileges for the destitute natives and former thralls of her father's lowly seat, in the process catching the eye of then Kronprins Benjen Kudlinen. When Aatto died, Benjen V then found a sure ally in the young noble, who remained out of the ancient traditionalist clique of rulers Aatto surrounded himself with. Hira, however, soon became much more than just a puppet spymistress. Her missions to root out traitors in the South saw her make convert allies in resistance movements while on the other hoof declaring to Benjen that they were all "sorted out", and her missions to discover secrets among the count led her to uncover a disturbing amount of information on each and every of Benjen V's Council of Seven - Benjen, of course, received barely any of it. Now, Hira continues scheming as the leader of the Axis of Chital, and with a united alliance of Southern upstarts, disgraced nobles, charmed bureaucrats, and true populists, the young spymistress has now fully consolidated her hold over the nation. Whether she shall forge a society of equity and tolerance or simply reverse the roles of power is unknown, but the choices are all hers to make. Portrait By: Kessel |

Born: 2nd of June, 971 in Mahorna
Biography: Normally, an aristocrat who promotes open disobidience to an established rule of law is purged, killed, or otherwise removed from office within days. Bhushan Gurat, through either a reputation of incompetence, status as a useful extremist, or a reputation as such a barbaric force of will that many are too scared to even challenge him, has remained an open opponent of House Kudlinen for a decade since the young native first inherited the seat of Mahorna. A firebrand religious populist, Bhushan the Brash, as he is called, is one of the most extreme politicans in Chital, but yet commands a sizable and extremely devoted movement - the Tuya, "Faithful" in the native Chitali language. A militarist religious order of Mahimata, the mother goddess of the Hindians, the Tuya have fought against the Olenian pantheon ever since Bhushan first took command of a once-weak organization of squabbling theologians which bore that name. Perhaps the most powerful Southern noble in Chital, Gurat was appointed to the Council of Seven as a voice to appease his subjects in Mahorna, part of the vast native Hindian population, who he soon became a key voice of. Brash and bumbling, many view Bhushan as nothing more than a charlatan playing with fire and dreams greater than his own, but little, if any, doubt his convictions - his fanatic Chitali patriotism, his love for his people - and his desire to make the heavenly mother come to Ostkranbi, whatever the cost in blood may be. Gurunath, stouter and stronger than his brother, is an ally of Ivar Hoversholm within the court, but surprisingly, he has also been seen as a key potential ally of Jakob the Grey. Rashigas, having served as an aide to Hoversholm but collaborator to Jakob in military operations, is a political wild-card, but like his brother, remains independent. |

Dreia of Lavborg, often called the Laughing Priest for his bucking of many ritualistic trends in favor of an accomodating view of the Pantheon and the recruitment of new worshippers, has served as the de-facto second in command of the followers of Ukko in Chital for years. Although they have sparred on theological matters numerous times before, Dreia remains a loyal disciple of Konnar, the leader of the Pantheon's worshippers in Chital, and along with the native Caarlit Lawas, has helped bolster the outreach of the Olenian Gods throughout skeptic urban communities and zealous native ones. |

A bumbling bureaucrat, Anders Snier is not exactly one's first choice to take over the intelligence apparatus left by Hira Ramachan, but he is perhaps the only candidate willing and able, with much of Hira's once-strong connections across Chital no longer in the hooves of the government. Hopefully, such a bumbling bureaucrat with a taste for starry-eyed reformism can truly bring something to Chital's growing intelligence network. |

The only thing more apparent than Elik Baronnen's bitter rivalry with fellow noble and industrialist Wasil Kahnli is his own size, a testament to the deer's wealthy, opulent lifestyle and the sheer power the aging populist commands. A critic of the government whenever it suits him and a loyalist to Benjen whenever it doesn't, Baronnen is a clear supporter of the North's economic dominance and seeks to maintain that without ever clearly establishing himself in opposition to the old Yaril. Within the nation, he is believed to align himself with moderate conservatives, and his distrust for Kahnli and radical politics is well known. |

The young and impulsive Wasil Kahnli, despite his rather obscure heritage and position in the minor nobility, has risen to a key advisory position within the royal court of Ostkranbi ever since he gained the patronage of Eva Pillai. Kahnli, known for his friendly demeanour and flamboyant status, has found a political home within Pillai's faction of market reformers. Though generally an opponent of some of the Yaril's recent reforms, Kahnli holds little sympathy for fellow industrialist Elik Baronnen, once a key ally at court, or extremists of any sort within the Yarildom. |

Biography: Allies of Liem Wesfelt, born in the eastern fields of Kanelimpra, would describe him as a visionary general and a powerful and promising member of the young officer corps of Chital. His enemies, however, would paint a much different picture, focusing largely upon his great abuses of power in service to Jakob the Grey and sheer brutality of his anti-resistance methods.
Beloved among the Oleno-Hindians, the young officer has already completed numerous tours of duty against the natives in the South, ones that have seen violence and bloodshed on the scale of the efforts of the Iron Regent in Sambar. However, many whisper that Wesfelt's ascendancy to power will soon collapse - if Benjen V and the reformists have their way. Portrait by: Riley Vinchers |

Biography: Originally one of the many thralls recruited in the forests and grasslands of Eastern Chital, in Kanilimpra, Pensha Rashanth was freed during the great reforms of Benjen IV. The young Hindian, eager to prove herself in a sphere of Olenian elites, enlisted in the armed forces from a young age, and caught the eye of Jakob the Grey, who had aided in suppressing resistance and overseeing freed thralls in her native territory for years. Rashanth and Jakob soon became good friends, and the new commander showed a lust for battle that saw her rise in rank faster than any native Chitali before her. In politics, however, her fate would be much less glorious. Rashanth, a freed thrall, was enlisted by countless harmonic activists, chief among them Raili Ninessen, in plans to prop her up as a symbol of a new, progressive Chitali deer that could bridge racial conflicts and fight injustice at home and abroad. The general, however, soon came into conflict with the very harmonists that showed such kindness to her, and following tense periods of debate over her demeanour and conflicts with Jakob, broke with them entirely. Returning to Jakob and the military, Rashanth made amends with the traditionalists, but continues to advocate reform even within their ranks.

Biography: Sanjay Gadra, a distant heir to the fortunes of House Gadra, an Oleno-Hindian upon the outskirts of Gondeerana, is a loyalist to Jakob the Grey and Ieffri Huddarnen, who he is seldom seen without. Together, the two have formed a bloc in the army promoting the continued usage of trench tactics and an aggressive foreign policy in response to the Hindian threat.
Sanjay has risen to a relatively high position in the army, one surprisngly high for his military expertise, solely because of his connections with his industrialist and arms manufacturer family in House Gadra. With experience in the air force as well as in the armed forces, Sanjay Gadra echoes his family's ties to the grand pursuit of flight and their continued lip service to the army and the traditionalist forces of Jakob the Grey. Biography: Born in 976 AD to the family of one of the Yaril Benjen IV's commanders, He was raised to follow the family trade, war, brutal and unjust. Living his early life in luxury, he grew up among his father's serfs, but soon began to notice the cruelty with which they were treated, and couldn't help feel a pang of emotion in his heart for them. Spending time with them, learning their stories and their lives, he grew close to many of them, and decided he would do everything he could to help.
With these sympathies, it was no wonder that when offered a chance to study at a military academy in New Mareland, he seized his chance. Finally he could spend time in a land a friendship and harmony, hopefully something he could import back home. Compared to his home... it was like comparing a flower to axe. But he always knew he would need to return home eventually, and try to implement what he had learned. As he finished his studies he recieved a letter from home, his father was dead, killed along with Yaril Aatto in another battle of the never-ending wars against the native populations. Now the owner of his father's estates and riches, he made some changes. Doing far more to help the lives of those who worked under him. Just the same, he began learning about the new Yaril, Benjen V. He was pessimistic at first, but as he heard more of "the Kind Viking", he decided he needed to see the deer for himself. Offering his military services, and touting his foreign training, Benjen accepted him into the General Staff and he soon became romantically involved with a fellow officer. And now, as tensions in Chital continue to grow, Sven still trusts in his king, and is prepared to fight for Chital and for it's people. Portrait by: MonAx |

Biography: A spirited stag of the Katiavan coast, Vaalan ventured inland on the scent of spice, securing a small parcel of land near the forests of Merkaanan to build a modest fortune on cinnamon. It was less fruitful than he envisioned and neither did he relish the work; he would do his best to find excuses and reasons for other errands and business- that was, until a belligerent CPLF force swept through the locality.
With the spirit of adventure burning boldly within, Vaalan decided he would rather try all four of his hooves at repulsing the raiders, and happily left everything behind to roam the wilds. He followed their movements, harassing them around the clock with whatever means he had at his disposal. Vaalan was always careful to disappear (or, more often, high-tail it) whenever things became troublesome. Once he realized he had a knack for this work, Vaalan began to informally organize ventures with others and chased after bandits, beasts, and other malign powers, growing bolder and travelling further by the operation, while taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to survey the lands. His antics eventually grew to be enough that a local noble presented him with an ultimatum: to either put his skills to use with a generously given commission into the Chitali military, or be hunted down himself as an outlaw subverting authority. Though sudden, the choice was simple enough. With time, Vaalan turned his lowly commission into a respectable rank. Portrait by: Egil |

Strategies and guides
Starting situation
Threats and opportunities
The Hindian wars will ignite in mid-1010 between Hindian-aligned nations (Doelhi and Barasingha) on one side, and Olenian-aligned ones (Chital and Sambar) on the other. Bhushan will switch Chital's alignment to Hindian when he comes to power, while Hira will unlock a decision to switch after completing a focus (which should be taken by January 1010). In either case, this will result in a 3 vs 1 war against Sambar, instead of a typical 2 vs 2. All those nations can be eventually cored.
- Yarildom of Sambar - The other nation that is Olenian-aligned in the beginning. Depending on your alignment in the Hindian wars, they are either an ally to fend off the Barasinghans, or a enemy which has to fight a three-front war, which the AI has little to no change of surviving. Either way, they can be annexed or conquered via the focus The Subject of Sambar. The annexation option is only available to Jakob, and has only 50% chance to succeed.
- Doelhi Confederation - An old enemy of Chital, participating in the Hindian wars. The focus Deal with Doelhi will either annex them or let you conquer them. The annexation option is available to Hindian-aligned Chital, but is not guaranteed to succeed.
- Barasingha - A relatively far away isolationist nation involved in the Hindian wars. As you have no direct front line with them, they aren't of much concern. Annexable or conquerable via Issue of the Isolationists. The annexation option is available to Hindian-aligned Chital, and is guaranteed to succeed to succeed if Barasingha is AI-controlled.
Once the Hindian wars conclude, Chital's international policy focuses will unlock. The policy towards the immediate neighbourhood is mostly the same in all the paths.
- Llambet - A nation of llamas that was once considered a part of Hindia. Can be conquered with the focus Secure the South, and then either cored or released as a protectorate with Hindianize Llambet (available to supremacists) and The Protectorate of Llambet (all other ideologies) respectively.
- Stagpal - Despite being a part of Hindia, they do not participate in the Hindian wars; nonetheless, they can be conquered and cored by taking the focus Liberate the Deer of Stagpal.
- Uusi Hirvimaa - Once the center of Deerlaw, it has now become a dominion of Macawia. Can be cored after the Hindian Wars. Annexable via Uusi Hirvimaa or War. AI Macawia will always accept Chital's demand.
The policy towards other nations will vary depending on your path.
- Macawia - Can be befriended by taking the focuses Reapproach Macawia, Chital's Own Pact Of 907, Hire The Companies, and the Hoversholm-exclusive The Big Bird's Approval. However, Eva Pillai's external policy focus tree leads to a war with them. A harmonic Republic of Asterion may invite them to their faction.
- Realm of Kiria - The biggest and strongest nation of Kirin. Can be befriended in the reformist path via mutual guarantee, but the Hoversholm and Bhushan paths give wargoals against them. Roaman Kaiserate will eventually invade them, which may help you in a potential war against them, or drag you into it if you befriended Roam as Hira. Conversely, you can be attacked by Kiria if it is led by Fickle Current, and harmonic Kiria may demand your disarmament.
- Taungpau - Can be conquered and released as a protectorate in Hira's path. Bhushan also gets a wargoal on it.
- Roaman Kaiserate - A nation befriendable in Hira's path. Will inevitably end up in a war with Kiria, if they survive their initial war against Talonsvaal Republiek. Once befriended, they are supposed to declare war on Talonsvaal, Zuid-Zebrikaansche Vrystaat, and Zeblu. In most situations, this is irrelevant, as Roam will gain wargoals on those nations from their own events, and will have conquered those nations by the time you are able to approach them. They will, however, do that if they were already puppeted by Kiria before that point, but in this situation they will be too weak to pose a real threat to their neighbours, especially if they are also puppets of Kiria themselves.
- Southeastern Zebrica nations - Roaman Kaiserate will attempt to conquer the griffon and zebra nations in the region, all the way to Talarayi. You may help them as Hira, but they ought to be able to handle it on their own.
- Colthaginian Republic, Coltvan Republic and Hippone - May attempt to conquer Chital (and the rest of Hindia) in the warlords' path. A puppet wargoal can be gained against them in the reformist path by taking War Plan: White and Black if their ruling party is supremacist or if Zarishat Zeirutid is the Coltavan Republic's leader.
- Austurland - A fellow Cervidaean nation in the continent of Griffonia. Can be conquered by a Jakob-lead Chital with the focus Free the Deer of Austurland, and puppeted if supremacist in the reformist path by taking War Plan: Blue.
- Kása Free State - Enemy of Austurland. Conquerable by Chital in the traditionalist path with Free the Deer of Austurland.
- Barrad Magocracy - If they expand to the coastline by taking either Hjarthólar or Seguro, and are supremacist, they can be puppeted in the reformist path.
- Free Towns of Gryphus - If Chital has went with the reformists and Gryphus has become supremacist, they can be puppeted via War Plan: Crimson. If Jakob is in power, they can be declared on through All the Riches of Riaportu. Otherwise, there can be improved trade between the two lands by taking the focus Gryphussian Company Aircraft.
- Kingdom of Wingbardy and Grand Duchy of Feathisia - Two Griffonian nations with which trade can be improved by the focuses Ties In The Regia Aeronautica and Support From The Feathisians respectively.
- Equestria and Kingdom of Olenia - Two nations in Equus with which trade can be improved by taking the focus Restart the Eastern Trade Routes.
Gameplay mechanics
In 1003, in order to ease the tensions between the Oleno-Hindians and the native Hindians, Benjen V founded the Council of Seven, a united advisory council of three native and three Olenian lords. However, over time, the Council has become fragmented and a vehicle of consistent political conflict. On one side, there are the ones supporting the Yaril: Eva Pillai, Benjen Davirtannen, and Jakob the Grey. On the other side are the Axis of Chital, lead by Hira Ramachan, the spymistress of Chital. The noble-turned-reformer Ivar Hoversholm and the warrior-priest Bhushan Gurat are also part of her Axis.
The initial struggle of power between the various members of the council is represented as the Courtly Intrigue in the decisions tab. After one of them indivertibly gains power, Courtly Intrigue is replaced with Remnants Of The Council, also in the decisions tab.
Courtly Intrigue
In the beginning of the game, five values relating to this decision category are kept tracked of, four of which are grouped as Divisions of Influence: Eva's influence, Benjen's influence, Jakob's influence, and the Axis of Chital's influence. Together combined, they add up to 100%. The fifth one, the Axis of Chital's tension, is tracked independently of the other four. These are the sizes of the values on January 1, 1007:
- Eva Pillai's influence: 20%
- Benjen Davirtannen's influence: 25%
- Jakob the Grey's influence: 25%
- Axis of Chital's influence: 30%
- Axis of Chital's tension: 35%
The values can be increased or decreased by taking various decisions or foci.
Introductions
After Seven Shall Enter is selected, events detailing the members of the Council of Seven will begin to appear at 7 day intervals. Overall, they will give:
- +2% support for unaligned;
- +10 political power;
- +2% support for Harmony;
- +1% support for Communism;
- +2% support for Supremacy;
The end result
After The Royal Progress is completed, an event chain will trigger, at the end of which Chital will gain a new ruler (except in the reformist path) and a brand new political focus tree, unique to that ruler. You can foresee the projected leader with the unselectable decision View Projected Leader. Besides that, the chosen ruler depends on the influence of the council members and the Axis of Chital's tension:
- If Axis of Chital influence is over 50%, the player can chose via event whether Hira Ramachan or Ivar Homersholm will be the country leader.
- If Axis of Chital tension is over 50%, but its influence is not over 50%, the player can chose via event whether Hira Ramachan or Bhushan Gurat will be the country leader.
- If neither is the case, one of Eva Pillai, Benjen Divirtannen or Jakob the Gray will be chosen as the country leader, depending on which one has the highest influence.
- Note: If Benjen Divirtannen gets in power, he will, at first, not be the country leader (Benjen V will remain). This, however, can be changed by taking the reformist path's focus Establish the Kungliga Riksdagen.
- If there's a tie of influence, the reformist path will be taken.
Remnants Of The Council
When the event chain deciding Chital's leader ends, the Courtly Intrigue decision category will be replaced with Remnants Of The Council decision category. This will introduce two new variables upon start: a stability malus, and a political power bonus. The council members will also be in one of the following states, depending on which political path was chosen by Chital:
- Eliminated;
- Dissenting;
- Neutral;
- Marginalized;
- Supportive;
- In Power.
It should be noted that the stability malus, political power bonus, and states of the council members are all tracked independently of each other, so changing one value or state will not change the other; hence, the aforementioned states are purely cosmetic with no impact to the game. However, events and focuses that change the state of a politician will also include code that changes the malus and political power bonus the player will gain, so the states can be a useful device for orientation, with positive states (marginalized, supportive, and even eliminated) corresponding to a less severe stability malus and a bigger political power bonus, and negative states (dissenting) corresponding to the opposite.
In any case, the unique political focus tree, no matter the path, will help to improve the politicians' opinion on the current government, which improves their state, lessens the stability malus, and increases the political power bonus.
These are the starting values for each of the paths:
- Eva Pillai's path:
- Benjen Davirtannen's and Benjen V's path:
- Jakob the Grey's path:
- Ivar Hoversholm's path:
- Hira Ramachan's path:
- Bhushan the Brash's path:
