A small, landlocked nation in the middle of Griffonia. Tarrin may breakaway from the County of Francistria shortly after the Aquileian Revolution takes place. The griffons of the country are proud of their Tarrinian and Aquileian heritage, but as a small and diplomatically isolated nation, they will have to fight hard to keep their newly reacquired independence.

Threats and Opportunities
County of Francistria - The nation Tarrin breaks away from, it is likely they will try to invade you to reestablish order. However you may white peace them after 90 days, which is easily doable if you stay on the defensive.
Kingdom of Aquileia - Aquileia will go after you not too long into the game, they are significantly stronger than you and are very hard to fight against alone, if possible it would be ideal to fight them while they are also at war with the rest of the Periphery.
Gameplay Mechanics
Tarrinian Diplomacy
As a newly independent nation in Griffonia, Tarrin find itself diplomatically isolated. Therefore, all paths will have decisions to try and receive recognition from few nations. These being Aquileia,
Wingbardy, the
Griffonian Republic and the leader of the River Coalition as well as their former overlords the
County of Francistria.
Should they accept your request, a non-aggression pact will be formed and further diplomatic options will open, which may allow you to join a variety of factions.
National Focus
The War of Independence and The Second Elections
Shortly after breaking free from the County of Francistria, a war of independence may be declared, allowing you to take the 5 top focuses. These focuses will give you weapons, spawn five divisions and make your troops better for the duration of the war; Water our Furrows will allow you to flood parts of the country, which will cause some damage to the factories and infrastructure but will give you increased defense and slow down movement in the provinces, the flooding will be repairable by decision after the independence war.
There are two ways to win this war. The first is to hold out for 90 days, at which point Francistria will let you go. This method is the safest, as it much easier to defend, and it will also allow you time to complete the focuses, giving you precious guns and divisions which you will keep after the war, if the Republicans take over Aquileia, they can join your side albeit bringing the Wingbardy and the rest of the Karthinan Pact against you.
The second is to capitulate Francistria. This is far faster than waiting for 90 days, though it may still be desirable to complete To Arms, Citizens! and Form Your Battalions! first, as you will be sorely lacking industrially after the war. This method is also somewhat more dangerous for, if you start pushing into Francistria, they will be allowed to call in their allies, at which point you will truly need to rush their Victory Points, as the Karthinian Pact severely outnumbers you.
Once the war is over or the County of Francistria has allowed you to secede peacefully, you will be able to start The Second Elections which will decided the future of Tarrin. Throughout the duration of the focus there will be a number of events, which will allow you to raise the popularity of specific parties. Once the focus has been completed the party with the highest popularity will be elected to power.
Regardless of the victor you will receive a warning and a National Spirit about the monarchist Burgundy Order, which seeks to restore Discret rule. Each political path will have one focus to remove said Order. If the Kingdom of Aquileia is monarchist, they will coup you within 300 days if the focus is not completed. This will be game over as you will be instantly annexed.
Two of the branches on the tree are shared between multiple paths. The socialists and republicans share an army tree while the republicans and supremacists share an economy tree.
Re-Establish the Army
This army tree, shared between socialists and republicans, will allow you to quickly modernize your army, granting several research bonuses and unlocking motorized and planed technologies. Notorious focuses are Promote Officers which will, for 1 year, reduce the cost of hiring and promoting generals as well as raise the starting skill level of new generals in all categories. Another two important focuses are Reopen the Griffoble Military Academy and Hire Aquileian Advisors which will grant you 1 Research Slot and improve your science base, respectively.
Capitalism Within Reason
This economy tree, shared between republicans and supremacists, will grant you a few factories, resources and infrastructure. It'll also allow you to quickly improve the level of industrialization of your society and remove poverty. A few unique national spirits will diminish your Consumer Goods Factories and trade laws cost while improving construction speed, production efficiency growth, and production efficiency cap.
The Sisterly Leader
Corina Trasviraire, an eccentric revolutionary, who promotes socialism, nationalism and religosity, has been chosen to lead the nation. She will seek to transition the economy towards socialism and will encourage moralism and direct democracy. She shares her army tree with the republicans.
The first focus, Freedom, Socialism and Unity will give you decisions to acquire Puppet War Goals on any independent, neighboring country in Aquileia and the Periphery. Her unique economy tree will allow you to quickly remove debuffs related to poverty and industrialize society. She will nationalize the oil fields and start to transition towards state capitalism and, eventually, socialism which will give you a mix of industrial bonuses and change your trade law to Limited Exports.
Corina will soon disband both the parliament and political parties, in their place establishing regional basic congresses and popular committees to allow citizens to quickly vote on local matters; with a General National Congress made up of representatives from the basic congresses. Finally, she disbands the position of president and starts taking a more guiding role as the Sisterly Leader. Afterward, Corina will seek to remove monarchist and Francistrian influences in the nation, while also making education free for all and encouraging adult literacy and moralism. The focus Free University Education gives you 1 Research Slot while Erase Foreign Influences will give a notable 25% Defense on core Territory.
Her final focus Pan Aquileianism will unlock decisions through which you may attempt to federalize (unite) with other communists in the regions of Aquileia and the Periphery. Your puppets will always accept, having high opinion will make other nations more likely to accept, and Aquileia itself has a reduced chance to accept your proposition. If your offer is accepted you will immediately annex the country and gain cores on their states, it is worth noting you will not receive cores if you simply annex them and so it is better to puppet them first.
The Third Revolution
Meinard Nocère, the hero who liberated Tarrin not only once, but twice, has once again been elected as president of Tarrin. If the Aquileian Revolution has succeeded he will carry on his plan of reuniting Tarrin with the rest of the Aquileians and will soon be annexed into the country. On the other claw, if the Discrets still rule the Kingdom of Aquileia, Meinard will bring about the Third Revolution. He shares his army tree with Corina and his economy tree with Leontina.
Meinard has to act quickly if he wishes to defeat the Discrets and as such, all of the focuses in his unique political branch take only 14 days to complete.
The Third Revolution will give you a series of bonuses, notably +25% attack and No Entrenchement Lose On Attack; Contact the Exiles will grant you 7 new generals, and Tarrinian Foreign Legions will spawn 5 20 width infantry units with support recon and artillery; Prepare the Partisans will spawn 5 10 width units in the middle of Aquileia once you declare on them, Allies in The Periphery will create the Anti-Discret Coalition faction and allow you to invite other republics in the Periphery to it. Finally, For the Republic will make you declare war on the Kingdom of Aquileia.
Should you manage to defeat them and seize Aquila, a decision to move your capital there will show up. Taking it will make you form the Aquileian Republic, and their Focus Tree will load. Meinard Nocère, his job done, will retire from politics and become available as Popular Figurehead political advisor.
The National Awakening
Being victorious in the election, Leontina will seek a path that diverges from her opponents; unlike them she is not an Aquileian pan-nationalist, but rather a Tarrinian nationalist and will seek to promote a revival of the local culture. She shares her economic path with the harmonists and has an unique military tree.
In her attempt to foster the national spirit, the Tarrinian language and culture will be widely promoted, with the former becoming the only one accepted in the country, leading to the erasure of Aquileian and Francistrian influences across the country. She wil also begin a mass expulsion of non-tarrinians, causing a refugee crisis in Aquileia and Francistria; as well as the asset seizure and nationalization of resources. She will also promote science and expand the University of Tarrin, giving 1 research slot and eventually bringing illiteracy to a negligible level.
While this path will give no war goals, it does allow you to declare border wars for the states of Balefire and Eire, which in the eyes of Leontina are fellow Tarrinians who are under the control of the Verenians. Aside from that, a more defensive position will be taken and forts will be built in all of Tarrin's core borders.
Finally, she will make use of the veterans of the Tarrinian Liberation Front to expand the country's military capabilities. Enabling guerrila tactics, unlocking decisions to create partisan units in enemies' territories, and greatly dimishing attrition and upkeep while boosting equipment capture. A new knight order will be established to help protect the country and several milita units will be spawned. The Military School of Engineering will give you 1 research slot and further defensive measures will be made, creating several anti-air buildings and bonuses to anti-tank guns will be given.
Technology
Tarrin inherits Francistria's technology.

When the Aquileian revolution broke out in 980, it was Meinard Nocère who led the uprising in Tarrin against the despotic Discret Countess. It was him who ordered the execution of the tyrant by guillotine. It was him who was the first President of the Republic of Tarrin, preparing her homeland for joining the Aquileian Republic. It was him who led the desperate struggle against Count Francis VIII and his forces. It was him who fled into the hills and founded the FLNT, even as the revolution crumbled around him.
Meinard's status among Tarrinians is close to mythical. For the longest time, most did not even know if he was alive anymore, or merely a story older Tarrinians told, about a hero who would one day miraculously liberate Tarrin from foreign oppression. For a long time, even the Governor-General Vittorio Felice was unsure about the fate of Meinard. Now that FLNT has declared Tarrin's independence, Meinard has come out of hiding and revealed himself, leaving Tarrinians in awe and Francistrians in shock. Its as if he had risen from the dead to stand aside the griffons of Tarrin as they broke their chains once more. Meinard has close ties to the main republican movement in Aquileia, and especially to Théodore Vérany. He was born in Aquileia, but in his eyes Aquileians and Tarrinians are kinfolk with shared heritage. He has spent so many years fighting for Tarrin's freedom that no one cares where he comes from and most Tarrinians consider him a true national hero of Tarrin. |

Eccentric
|
Corina Trasviraire, commonly known as Colonel Corina, is an eccentric figure. Coming from a humble background, she joined the Royal Army Academy of Tarrin, but betrayed her superiors and joined the revolutionaries in 980. During the first Tarrinian elections, she founded AST, a socialist nationalist party, despite still being fairly young and inexperienced at the time.
She is strongly religious and nationalistic, yet is without a doubt a devout socialist. She advocates republican rule, yet is known for her authoritarian tendencies within the party. Due to leading a group of dissident officers who rebelled against the County, the republicans had a difficult time trusting her. Yet over the years, she slowly gained the trust she deserved by bravely fighting against the Francistrian invaders and organizing both passive and active resistance to occupation. At the same time, her popularity has grown among the citizens of Tarrin. Reclusive, irrational and impulsive, yet also naive, intelligent and pious. To this day, Corina remains a controversial figure, but none doubt that she genuinely cares about the liberation of Tarrin and its inhabitants. |

Leontina Pandionne was born to a poor family of shepherds near the fortified town of Château Accueillant. Life in her small village was peaceful and quiet, and her conservative parents taught her to love her homeland of Tarrin. Even the republican revolution did not disturb her childhood, at least until Count Francis VIII decided to take advantage of the situation and invaded.
Leontina's parents joined the local militia in the fight against the foreign invaders, but it was in vain. Her parents perished and her village was burned and looted by Francistrian soldiers. She fled into the hills that surrounded her home and barely survived in the wilds, until a group of republican resistance fighters found her and provided her with shelter and food. After Tarrin was annexed into the County of Francistria, Leontina's band of rebels joined the larger FLNT movement which was rapidly organizing in the region. Her fellow freedom fighters became her family, and she quickly learned to be useful to the resistance. At first her small size was beneficial in sabotage, and as she grew older she learned to use weapons and became skilled in setting up ambushes. As she fought against the occupiers, her heart was filled with purpose: She had to avenge her parents and drive out the foreign invaders. Her upbringing meant she was familiar with the countryside and traditional Tarrinian values, and thus could easily recruit peasants to join the ranks of FLNT. If FLNT achieves its goal of independence, she feels obliged to participate in the elections, as if it was her responsibility to protect Tarrin and its culture. She is especially popular among the peasantry of Tarrin. Reclusive, irrational and impulsive, yet also naive, intelligent and pious. To this day, Corina remains a controversial figure, but none doubt that she genuinely cares about the liberation of Tarrin and its inhabitants. |

Darien Platecrête |
![]() A good officer needs to lead from the front.
|
See description:
Darien Platecrête was born and raised in the city of Aquila, both of his parents having been relatively high ranking knights in the Aquileian military before they retired. They pushed hard for him to join, which he did as soon as he was able.
By the time of the First Revolution he had become a full-fledged knight, and after they lost he fled the country along with many other Monarchists. He later joined in the counter-revolution led by Maréchal Berthelot, helping to overthrow the Republicans. Over the years afterwards he climbed the ranks to the position of General de Division through his brutally effective efforts to stamp out the Republicans. Eventually though he realized just what he had done, and spiraled deep into a depressive state. Eventually by chance he met some Republicans who, not knowing just who he was, convinced him to join up. Over the course of the years up until the Second Revolution after that point, he steadily shuffled around, replaced and promoted the right Griffs and Ponies so that when the time came the Anges du Ciel would follow him in the case of another Revolution. Unfortunately for him the Chouette caught wind of his activities, but rather than kill him they decided to ship him along with other problematic officers off to Tarrin to try and have him stir up some trouble for the Francistrians. |
