A staunch ally of Hellquill, the small County of Longsword has weathered many assaults from the Riverponies, but they've stood together against the tide, as battle-brothers in their separate Knightly Orders. But since they've gained their independence from the Empire, Longsword has enjoyed relative stability until Count Pallas Dusktalon invited members of the Reformisten, a radical group from Hellquill, for assistance against the ponies. Slowly, they've gained power across the entire nation, and now they've begun the cleansing of Longswordian lands from anyone deemed impure, especially ponies...
Lore
Grover II's ascension
Longsword is a relatively young nation compared to some of its other imperial counterparts. In 785 ALB, only a few days after the passing of Emperor Grover I of the Griffonian Empire, the regional power of the east, Nimbusia, would mount an invasion on Gryphian Host.
While this attack would be repelled by the griffons, it set off a chain reaction, as the new Emperor Grover II had not been blessed by the Idol of Boreas, which meant he now ruled a vast empire with vassals only nominally under his ruler, many eager to challenge it. This, combined with the fact that he would be completely enraged by this act of aggression by the eastern pony states, and years later around 800 ALB, he would begin a massive offensive into the pony lands in retaliation.
Invasion of the Riverlands
He gathered the knightly Orders of Hellquill and Longsword to support him on this so-called "Crusade". In reality, calling this a crusade was a political move in order to justify these actions, and in truth, they were full scale military operations lead by the Griffonian Empire. The crusades were partially successful, as the collapse of the empire was prevented, and some pony territories were annexed into the imperial lands.
However, their most ambitious goal - shattering the Riverlands, failed. Grover II met his end at the end of a Nimbusian spear in 854 ALB. In addition, his Crusades and following griffon raids motivated the Riverlands to eventually sign the Treaty of Coltstream, a common defense pact amongst pony lands.
His peaceful successor Grover III showed no interest in continuing the Crusades against the ponies.
Formation of the Knightly orders
Before Grover II's death however, the Knightly Orders of Hellquill and Longsword would be incorporated into the Empire as Marches, and were granted some of the lands from the Riverponies. Both of these orders would swear an oath to Grover II that they and their successors would do everything in their might to fight the pony menace, and that they would never have a reason to fear their loyalty.
The crusades would continue for many years, and both Longsword and Hellquill would come to occupy and later, incorporate a sizeable chunk of pony land. Later on, after the crusades had officially ended, both orders would still commence in raids going back and forth between them and the Riverponies.
While the Knights of Hellquill managed to make some breakthroughs and notable advances into the Riverlands, Longsword never had such fortune, and as a result, would occupy a smaller amount of land than their northern brothers. At first, conquered lands would be followed by massive griffon settlement, but later on ponies would be allowed to be left in peace, provided they disarmed, kept to their self running communities and provided taxes to their griffon overlords.
Both orders continued to serve faithfully for many years, however, the empire has grown weak and decadent, plagued by greed, internal affairs, and constantly growing corruption. After years of raiding and protecting against the ponies time and time again, after the coronation of Grover V in 979, the orders refused to renew their oaths to the Emperor, promptly ending their service to the Empire. It should be noted that Longsword, who by all means lived and died in the Kaiser's name, were very hesitant to do such a thing. However, due to the power of the Reformisten, the Council of Helquill convinced their allies to leave as well.
The Grand Vision from the North
After their separation from the Empire, no longer burdened by their loyalty to a foreign nation, Longsword enjoyed relative stability under the rule of the noble counts of the Dusktalon family. Not long after they declared independence, Pallas Dusktalon would assume the role of the Count of Longsword, and at first, he was completely content with keeping the traditions in place, as had the others before him.
However, all of this changed when he heard of the rapidly growing ideology in Hellquill. This radical group, calling themselves the Reformisten, believed in griffon supremacy overall, holding the ponies as the mortal enemy of all of griffonkind, and blaming them as the sole reason of all their problems. Their plan was to make Hellquill into what they call a "Proper state", with their leader, Wingfried von Katerinburg at its helm, and to create more "Living place" for griffons, at the expense of ponykind.
These radical ideas interested the Count, and he would proceed to invite a bunch of their supporters into his government, and to teach him of their ideas. Over time, this radical ideology of racial supremacy and hatred took root in Dusktalon's heart, and he would begin to implement the policies the Reformisten had in mind, which would then spiral into a bloodbath against ponykind, which to outsiders would be known as the "Longswordian Genocide". It was here that many of the Skybreachers, an older segment of the actual knightly order began to plot the Count's usurption. Many remembered the Night of the Red Rivers, a cruel ploy by some more...extreme River ponies to butcher the griffins they held captive and to let them bleed into the rivers. This sort of slaughter was one of the many things that the Order stood against and they would not let it crumble.
Fortunately, not all were simply willing to sit by and let these atrocities happen. A group of partisans, lead by Starry Night, dreamed of a communist state, where both griffons and ponies would be equal. While they have been actively sabotaging the Reformisten efforts at purifying the country, during these few recent years, the Count's efforts to cleanse the nation have intensified, and now the ponies are facing a very real threat of complete annihilation. The Partisans must either step up their efforts, or be eradicated.
But the pony minorities are not the only ones to oppose these crimes. General Silvertalon and the army as a whole are extremely skeptical of the Count's plans. While they don't share any real love for the ponies, they understand that slaughtering them will lead to nothing but pointless death and suffering, and overall ruin for the entire nation. As such, they have agreed to try one last time to talk some sense into Dusktalon, in order to stop this madness. However, should these attempts be in vain, they might have no choice but to openly oppose the Reformisten regime.
Modern Age
The future of the country is uncertain at best. The Count and his Reformisten lackeys are purging the populace in order to achieve what they view as "purity". Partisans are fighting this mad regime, and the army is getting anxious. Meanwhile, outside forces look at the nation as an easy pathway for expansion.
Only one thing is certain: One side must win over Longsword quickly, whatever the cost...
Starting Situation
Longsword starts in a weak position, with only a few meagre factories and horrible debuffs. Surrounded by enemies and with no allies, Longsword must either struggle to survive, or perish.
Longsword starts with 3 fully equipped 12 width regular infantry divisions (recon Companies are included), using a total of 19.50K griffonpower, with a reserve of 10.04K griffonpower.
Threats and Opportunities
Lake City - Since Longsword is located between the Griffonian Empire and the riverponies, Lake City will most of the time attack you to get to them. They will always attempt an invasion if under The Grand Prince or Westerly, and under Wavebreaker if the focus Intervening Within Griffon Affairs has been selected. Note that if they are part of the Federation, they may call all the member states in, making the war extremely difficult.
River Republic - Should the Harmonist/Non-aligned have prevailed in the republic, if the focus Operation: Magic Star has been taken, they will have decisions to stage coups in both you and Hellquill.
Ordensstaat Hellquill - Your northern neighbor, Hellquill is closely affiliated with you, as they are a fellow Order and an ex-border march of the empire, sharing similar traditions. After the civil war in Longsword has ended, they will always attempt to integrate Longsword, which will usually result in a war if the offer is refused. Since they start the game with better industry, army and bonuses, and since you will still be recovering from the Civil war, the war might be difficult. You will have a focus to get a war goal on them yourself once the civil war is over.
Griffonian Empire - Should the Non-Aligned have prevailed in the Civil war, you will have an option to ask for protection, and if accepted, will restore you into an Imperial border march. This will allow you to defend and wage war against the ponies much easier than alone.
Sunstriker Clan - Under Heidenreich, you will be able to form an alliance with them, if they are Supremacist or Non-Aligned.
Principality of Lushi - Under Heidenreich, you will get an annex war goal on them.
Gameplay Mechanics
The Longsword Liberation Army, while a pony nation with pony racial technology, will have access to both griffon knights and all unique pony units, making it possible to have their entire army consist of very powerful divisions.
Longsword under Rosa will be able to conduct raids on its neighbors, and get loot if the raid is a success. Both sides will have a small skirmish of around 6 troops per side. The loot can be used for various things, such as stability, griffonpower or civilian factories.
Focus Tree - Pre-Civil War and Civil War
As the Count continues forward with this insanity, everyone must prepare to fight for what they believe in...
Pre-Civil War
Since tensions are rapidly rising, every side will attempt to achieve their goals quickly.
The Communist Partisans will form a secret government, and attempt to actively sabotage the Reformisten efforts.
The Army will at first try to reconcile with the Count, but since their efforts are in vain, they will attempt to get support from the Heartlands, and will soon start an open resistance.
Meanwhile, the Reformisten will continue onwards with their plans, despite the minor setbacks. Note that all debuffs received during this stage of the tree will only affect the Reformisten side during the civil war.
Civil War
During the civil war, every faction will have focuses which give various different bonuses, such as equipment, divisions or factories.
- Longsword Liberation Army
The Communist start off with the most troops available of 5-7 divisions, and have a focus to spawn three militia as well. They have no industry at the war start, but compensate for this with their relatively large army and their decent ponypower pool. They also receive 5% more war support than the other factions. The best strategy for them is the opposite of the Supremacy: to overwhelm the enemy sides and encircle them. This usually allows to quickly push the Supremacists into an uncomfortable position between the Partisans and the Army.
- Rosewood Order
The Non-Aligned start off with a moderate army of around 5-6 divisions, and will have a focus to get two reserve units. While they may have fewer units overall, they make up for this by having better divisions than the other two factions, all of them decently equipped. You will have the best generals out of all the factions. They are also the only faction which is given artillery, and unlike the partisans, they have 1 civilian factory at the start of the war. This side has no defined strategy for them, as they have enough divisions for an attack, but still mostly defend from the aggressive southern partisans.
- County of Longsword
The fascists start off with the weakest armed forces of around 3-4 divisions, this is offset by the fact that they are the only faction with any real industry at the start of the war. They are also the ones to receive the largest amount of raw griffonpower from their focuses. Playing defensively at the start is almost a requirement, as they simply lack a sufficiently big enough army to partake in any offensive operations. They will get three Militia divisions, which will help to overcome this weakness.
- Comparison Table
Below are the bonuses received from these trees. Note that these are only the bonuses given from the Civil war focus trees.
Focus Tree - County of Longsword
With the mutineers and the partisans defeated, Count Pallas Dusktalon will unleash his full force to purify Longsword. As Pallas destroys every traitor, rebel, and pony in the country, he dreams of getting richly rewarded by Wingfried von Katerinburg in Hellquill for his glorious success. However, the nation had been utterly ruined as Pallas's dreams come true, and even the Reformisten commanders are starting to doubt their cause.
General Rosa Heidenreich, the Count's most trusted advisor, will be tasked by the Count to deliver the news of success to their benefactors in Hellquill.
- Deliver the Letter
If Wingfried had taken power in Hellquill (the ideology of Hellquill is Supremacy), Rosa will have the option to swallow her doubts and follow her orders. The player will be automatically tag changed to Ordensstaat Hellquill, and Longsword will be annexed by Hellquill. Rosa Heidenreich will become a general in Hellquill, while Pallas Dusktalon, contrary to his wishes, is demoted and reassigned to a remote outpost.
- Heidenreich's Takeover
Rosa's default option, available regardless of the leader in Hellquill, is to abandon her duties and the Reformisten ideology, and launch a coup on Count Pallas to seize power for herself. Dusktalon will be killed, and Rosa proclaims the founding of a bandit state in Longsword, known as Heidenreich's Bandits. The economy law will be locked to Criminal Economy.
Since Longsword is no longer a traditional state, they will be able to deal with things in a rather unorthodox way. Such things include: enslaving everyone who is illiterate, gradually leaving the only real citizens remaining to be forced into reading. Dealing with poverty by "suggesting" all those unwilling to work to go run the factories. And by getting new, capable officers by holding shooting competitions on civilians...
This path notably gives a large amount of both civilian and military factories, new generals and the ability to raid neighbors. Though this path doesn't give a war goal on Hellquill, if Heidenreich conquers Hellquill, their territories can be occupied with the Integration law and cored when their compliance level goes above 40%.
The focus tree is divided into three branches: an army branch (An Army of Bandits), an air force branch (Bandits In Planes), and a main branch that covers economic and diplomatic focuses (Consolidate Our Power).
Notable foci:
- "Teach" the Illiterate: Gradually increases literacy level.
- Deal With the Impoverished/Work Programs for the Poor: Reduces poverty level.
- We Are Rich!: Increases society development level and scientific development level.
- Organ Donors: Generates one pile of Loot every six months after the focus is completed.
- A Chance Meeting branch of focuses: Available only if the bandit Eriviar Sunstriker is leading the Sunstriker Clan. Rosa will take interest in Eriviar after a chance meeting during a raid. Through their relationship and later, a possible marriage, they will be able to form an alliance between these two bandit states.
- The Southern Sister/Friendship Is Banditry: Available only if the bandit Blackrock is leading Blackrock's Bandits. Rosa will reach out to Blackrock for a possible alliance.
- If Blackrock was overthrown, conquered, or at war with Heidenreich, these two focuses will by bypassed, giving the country access to Take Lushian Assets.
- Take Lushian Assets: Gives an Annex war goal on the Principality of Lushi. Conquering Lushi will open up more neighbors for raiding.
- Easy Prey In The Woods: Available only if Longsword controls Hellquill's territories (focus conditions specifies Brightcreeks). Unlocks decisions to launch border wars and seize the states of Tealea and Silverfalls (default owner is Firtree Villages).
- Beasts Of Burden/The Treasures Of Silverfalls: Gives cores on Tealea and Silverfalls, as well as other bonuses.
Focus Tree - Rosewood Order
The Kamarilla led by Hochmeisterin Konrada Wavewing and General Conrad Silvertalon had triumphed against the Reformisten and the Partisans. Zeltstadt will become the new capital of Longsword, and the Rosewood Knights and the Army will begin rebuilding the nation. Longsword will receive the negative national spirit Recovery from the Civil War:
- Recovery from the Civil War
- Mobilization speed: -50%
- Recruitable Population Factor: -25%
- Consumer Goods Factories: 20%
- Division Recovery Rate: -20%
- War Support: -50%
- Justify war goal time: +100%
- Conscription Laws Cost: +500%
The focus tree is divided into three parts: a political + industry tree (A Meeting in Zeltstadt), a foreign policy tree (Onwards to Hellquill), and a military tree (Empower the Rosewood Order/Die Langschwertische Landeswehr). Initially only the political tree is available, and both other trees are locked.
A Meeting in Zeltstadt, the first available focus, will launch a series of events where Konrada and Conrad will meet at Zeltstadt to decide on the future of Longsword. Konrada Wavewing believes that the civil war was a sign of the dangers of new radical ideas, and the nation should return to its virtuous, dutiful, and honorable past. Conrad Silvertalon believes that Longsword can no longer return to the past, and needs to heal by reforming the nation into a constitutional, harmonious, and democratic republic, with the transitional period overseen by the army.
Konrada Wavewing's Rosewood Order
Konrada Wavewing had taken the position of leadership and institutes the Rosewood Order's traditional and honorable rule.
Archives of the Great Crusades unlocks decisions where the Rosewood Order can launch story-collecting expeditions to collect stories from the era of the Great Crusades and record them in the Archives. One expedition costs 15 PP and 90 days to complete, during which the Recruitable Population Factor will be be reduced bt 5%. When the expedition completes, there is a chance that a story from the crusades will be collected. There are a total of five stories, and collecting all of them is a prerequisite to unlocking the focuses Battle Reenactments and Construct the Große-Ordensburg.
Konrada's Revelation
As the player progresses through Konrada's focus tree, a series of events will gradually fire. Unlocking all the events requires completing all the focuses in Konrada's focus tree, meaning that the Archives need to be completed as well.
The events describe Konrada's encounter with a Katerin musician, whose song triggered an unexpected emotional reaction from her. The musician is imprisoned and questioned, who, upon meeting with Konrada, reveals that she is actually Konrada's biological sister Glinda, and Konrada was born Cynthia Crowbeak, to a musician's family in Katerin. Konrada was abducted when she was young by Rosewood Order knights, and raised into the knight she is today, completely forgetting about her past. The song she played was a song from her childhood, played by their father to calm down young Cynthia.
Konrada is shocked by these revelations, and the knowledge that the Rosewood Order had abducted children like her to raise into knights made her question her belief in the Order, which she believed had always been a paragon of virtue. Konrada eventually decides that she must truly uphold the virtuous values she was brought up believing in, and decides to reform the Order towards true Harmony.
Conrad Silvertalon's Republic of Longsword
Conrad Silvertalon had taken the position of leadership and begins to transition Longsword into a democratic republic. He will form a Provisional Government and identify the experienced reformist advisor Solarpluff Engelberg as the ideal first Prime Minister of the Republic of Longsword.
The final focus, The First Engelberg Government, will have General Silvertalon hand over the government to Solarpluff Engelberg.
The First Engelberg Government
During the transition of power from Silvertalon to Engelberg, Engelberg is assassinated by a Reformisten terrorist or a professional assassin hired by corrupt officials. As such, Silvertalon is forced to declare martial law and use more authoritarian measures to totally stabilize the country. The next branch of the focus tree is revealed and unlocked.
The dreams of a republic and democracy have been put on hold, and the day when that dream will be realized is still a long way away...
Industry, Military, and Foreign Policy Trees
- Industry Tree
The central branch of the political focus tree under Rekonstruktion is Konrada and Conrad's main industry tree shared between the two. It focuses on rebuilding the country from the civil war and further developing the country's industry. Focuses in this branch of the focus tree gradually weaken the negative effects of Recovery from the Civil War, and will eventually remove it.
Notable foci:
- Relief for the Impoverished: Reduces poverty level.
- Kirchspeils Schulverwaltung: Reduces illiteracy level.
- Swordsson University: Adds 1 research slot, increases Scientific Development level.
- The Longswordian Standard: Increases Society Development level, in addition to other bonuses.
- Military Tree
The Military Focuses are divided between a branch focusing on the Rosewood Order and a branch focusing on the Longswordian State Army, along with several shared focuses in the middle. The branch that is unlocked is dependent on the political path chosen.
- Empower the Rosewood Order: Unlocked if Konrada Wavewing takes power. This branch of the focus tree leans towards Griffon Knight developments.
- Die Langschwertische Landeswehr: Unlocked if Conrad Silvertalon takes power. This branch of the focus tree leans towards standard military developments.
Shared focuses in the military focus tree:
- Armeefliegerkommando branch of the focus tree, which focuses on developing Longsword's air forces.
- Großkaiser Grover II Research Institute, which adds 1 research slot and increases scientific development level.
- The Imperial Exchange Program branch of the focus tree, available if Longsword is in a faction with the Griffonian Empire, focuses on deepening the military cooperation between Longsword and Herzland.
- Foreign Policy Tree
The foreign policy focuses under Onwards to Hellquill are unlocked after the Recovery from the Civil War negative national spirit has been removed (by taking focuses in the Rekonstruktion branch of the focus tree).
- Onwards to Hellquill: If Hellquill is fascist, Longsword will receive an annex war goal on Hellquill. Otherwise, Longsword will receive an event where it can choose to unite with Hellquill diplomatically or by war.
- Choosing diplomacy will send an event to Hellquill where they may agree or disagree with the unification. If Hellquill agrees, Longsword will annex Hellquill. If Hellquill refuses, Longsword can either respect their decision or go to war with them, receiving an Annex war goal on Hellquill.
- Choosing war will automatically declare war on Hellquill.
- Integrate Hellquill: Allows Hellquill's states to be occupied with Integration law and cored by Longsword when their compliance reaches 40%.
- United Ost-Griffonia: Renames the country to Ost-Griffonian State, and gives national spirit The Griffons of the East that grants +10% attack and defense on core territory.
- Rebuild Hellquill: Unlocks Northern Vartai Reconstruction Committee decisions, which grant factories and infrastructure when taken.
- Return to Griffonia: Unlocks the decision Our Friends in the Empire. The decision can be taken if the Griffonian Empire had become resurgent in the Herzland. The decision will send an event to the Empire, expressing Longsword's desires to reestablish relations with the Empire. If the Empire aceepts Longsword's requests, Longsword will join the Reichspakt.
Focus Tree - Longsword Liberation Army
With the Reformisten lunatics gone, and the rest of Silvertalon's army standing down, Starry Night and her Longsword Liberation Army can now begin to rebuild the nation. Like the Rosewood Order, Longsword will receive the negative national spirit Recovery from the Civil War, with the exact same negative effects as described above. Like the Rosewood Order, the focus tree is divided into a political + industrial tree (Visaginas Constitutional Convention), a foreign policy tree (Free the Ponies of Hellquill), and a military tree (Longsword Liberation Army), and initially only the political tree is available.
The left branch of the political + industrial tree is the political tree (under The Agrarian Revolution by default), and varies by the country's chosen political path. The right side of the tree, under Lemiamas Šuolis, as well as the focus Fate of the Rosewood Order, does not change by political path.
Visaginas Constitutional Convention, the first available focus, will launch a series of events where representatives across Longsword will convene at Visaginas to vote on the direction the new Longsword should take. The Longsword Liberation Army is divided into two major factions: the Red Faction (Raudonieji) and the White Faction (Baltieji). The Red Faction led by partisan commander Starry Night aims to create an agrarian socialist society, while the White Faction led by pony noble Flawless Justice aims to restore the harmonious and democratic Longswordian society of the past. There is also third minor faction, New Griffonia (Naujoji Grifonija), led by partisan fighter Golden Morning, which subscribes to a radical vision of Pony-Griffon unity.
Starry Night will make a speech during the Convention, stating her beliefs in a utopian socialist society where everybeing will be free. This event has two outcome options: the Convention either cheers for Starry's vision or is disinterested in it. The former will lead to the Red Faction political path, while the latter leads to the White Faction political path.
Meanwhile, rumors are spreading that Golden Morning is gathering his supporters in the Army for an outright coup on the new government. Starry may choose to either purge New Griffonia, or dismiss the rumor. If New Griffonia isn't purged, they will launch a coup when the Convention closes, taking over the country. Otherwise, the Red or White faction will take power.
Starry Night's Red Faction
The Convention closes with Starry Night's Red Faction being voted into power and instituting their constitution. Starry Night will remain the leader of the country, the country's ideology remains Communist, and the country's name remains Socialist Republic of Longsword.
The Red Faction aims to build a commune-based agrarian socialist society in Longsword. Agriculture will be collectivized voluntarily, a bill of rights will be established, and industry will be developed through communal tractor stations and encouragement of division of roles.
The Red Faction has choices when it comes to religion and culture: Honor our Ancestors will maintain freedom of religion (+5% recruitable population factor and +5% stability), while the mutually exclusive No Gods, No Masters! will adopt state atheism (+5% political power gain and +5% factory output).
The Posniak Issue will decide on whether or not the Posniaks, Ponies who follow Griffon culture and their Archonic faith, should be recognized as their own ethnic group distinct from Ponies and Griffons.
- If the Posniaks are recognized as a distinct group, the national spirit Three Cultures will be added, granting +0.05 daily PP gain, +5% recruitable population factor, and -5% stability.
- If the Posniaks are not recognized and instead treated as Ponies, the national spirit Two Cultures will be added, granting +0.10 daily PP gain, -5% recruitable population factor, and +5% stability.
Flawless Justice's White Faction
The Convention closes with Flawless Justice's White Faction being voted into power and instituting their constitution. Flawless Justice will take over Starry Night as the leader of the country, the country's ideology is changed to Harmony, and the country's name is changed to Free Communities of Longsword.
The White Faction's rule plans to return Longsword to its harmonious pre-Dusktalon days, when it was ruled by the pony Grand Duke Žemaitukas. A democratic parliament known as the Seimas will be established, pony ownership over land will be restituted, Griffons will be granted autonomous territories, and the native faith in the Goddess Varėnė will be restored (with Posniaks being encouraged to return to the proper faith).
Some focuses will unlock a series of cosmetic events named "A Tale of a Lost Past", detailing the pre-Dusktalon history of Longsword.
The Violet Revolution
As the Convention closes, Golden Morning's New Griffonia launches a coup and takes over the country. The country's ideology is changed to Supremacy, and the country's name becomes Longsword National Republic.
Golden Morning sees Longsword, with its hybrid Pony-Griffon frontier culture, as a model for a future of eternal peace on all of Griffonia. If the Pony-Griffon super-culture can be expanded to cover all of Griffonia, then the continent will be forever united, and there will be no more meaningless bloodshed. Golden Morning is committed to his ideals, and is willing to sacrifice everything in order to see his ideals realized.
Starry Night is killed during the New Griffonia coup, and Golden Morning launches a mass purge on his former comrades after his coup. Partisan commander Abba Povner, upon hearing the news, commands his units to go back to Visaginas to depose Golden Morning and uphold Starry's vision. When Povner's units arrive at Visaginas, Golden Morning can choose to confront Povner face to face, or hold back his impulses and defend the city normally.
If Golden Morning doesn't succumb to his impulses, he will mount a successful defense, and capture and execute Povner and his companion Ludwig von Pliater. Golden Morning will then be able to properly begin reshaping the nation to his ideals and realize his destiny. This unlocks The Violet Revolution, the first focus of Golden Morning's political focus tree.
- Political Tree
Golden Morning's coup brings with it a new political focus tree and a new foreign policy focus tree. In the political tree, Golden Morning will adopt extremely totalitarian social engineering measures to forcibly synthesize the Pony and Griffon culture in Longsword.
Notable foci:
- The Violet Revolution: Adds 100 PP and 10% base stability, as well as adding the national spirit Construction of Destiny. Initially, Construction of Destiny gives +15% PP Gain, but multiple focuses in the political focus tree will strengthen this national spirit with further bonuses (and sometimes penalties).
- As the player progresses down this focus tree, multiple events describing life in Golden Morning's society will fire. Most of these events will add -5% monthly population growth onto Construction of Destiny, stacking up to a total of -35% monthly population growth.
- Forced Integration: Adds Pegasus Division technology, and raises a locked Integration Special Ops Division with 5 Knight battalions, 5 pegasi battalions, 1 support artillery and 1 recon.
- Totalitarian Social Engineering: +5% recruitable population factor, also the Griffon Technology Research decisions (unlocked through the focus Griffon Technology Research under the military focuses) will complete 40 days faster.
- Stratification of the National Body: Changes economy law to War Economy, and locks the economy law to War Economy or Total Mobilization.
- Patriotic Education Programs: Gradually reduces illiteracy level.
- Foreign Policy Tree
Golden Morning's foreign policy is massively expanded from the LLA's default foreign policy tree, and allows Golden Morning to invade and core the Griffonian Empire and the countries of the River Coalition.
Notable foci:
- Destroy Hellquill: Grants annex war goal on Hellquill, regardless of its leader; Golden Morning will not offer diplomacy to Hellquill.
- The Heart: Moves capital to Swordsson, and renames both Swordsson and Longsword's country name to Širdis.
- Descend to the West: Declares war on Griffonian Empire. The focus is only available if the Empire exists and has reconquered Herzland. If another nation controls Herzland, then the focus is bypassed and Širdis will have to manually justify a war goal on the owner of Herzland.
- Fate of the Grover Lineage: After conquering Griffenheim, Golden Morning can decide to have Grover VI deported to the frontier and raised in the new Pony-Griffon super-culture, or permanently imprisoned.
- Ponification: Allows the use of Integration occupation law on the occupied states of Herzland and coring of these states once their average compliance reaches 40%.
- Ascend to the East: Declares war on all original members of the River Coalition.
- Abolish the Treaty of Coltstream: Allows the integration and coring of Nimbusian, Pònaidh, and Wittenlandic states.
- New Species in the National Body: Adds technology Ironpaws Division, and makes it possible to recruit Diamond Dog generals and operatives. Also allows the integration and coring of Diamond Mountain and Bakaran states.
- Griffonization: Allows the integration and coring of Rijekan, Lakeish, and Deponyan states.
- Proclaim the Griffking Empire: Renames Širdis to Griffking Empire. This angers most of the Griffon nations on the continent, who may receive a war goal on the Griffking Empire to topple it.
- A Grateful World: Requires the Griffking Empire to be at peace, and takes 140 days to complete (meaning that the Empire needs to have totally destroyed all Griffon resistance to its rule). Golden Morning has accomplished his dreams of creating a continent free of conflict. He will repeal his totalitarian measures and end his conquests.
The Vengeful Revolution
During Povner's showdown with Golden Morning, Golden Morning succumbs to his impulses and demands to duel Povner; he is promptly shot by a sniper, and Povner routs the New Griffonia forces. Povner is given emergency powers and tasked to keep Starry's revolutionary dreams alive. The country's ideology changes back to Communism and is renamed back to Socialist Republic of Longsword.
Abba Povner upholds Starry Night's dreams of building an agrarian socialist society in Longsword, but he and his followers, the Kraujo Kerštas ("Blood Vengeance"), also known as the Kerštininkai ("Avengers"), dream of so much more, for they believe in vengeance. The Reformisten, the Griffon supremacists, and the Imperials, all of them had contributed to the enormous sufferings endured by the ponies in Longsword, and Povner, the Soldier of the Gods, wants the Griffons to pay back for their crimes in blood.
- Political Tree
Povner institutes a deeply religious and highly militant socialist rule. He restores ancient Vartai religious institutions, demands the Posniaks to convert back to the Varėnė faith, ruthlessly purges Black Cloak and New Griffonia remnants, forms an army of faithful fighters, and implements agrarian socialism as Starry Night envisioned it out of respect for the unicorn revolutionary.
- Foreign Policy Tree
The first half of Povner's foreign policy tree, dealing with the takeover of Hellquill, is identical to the standard LLA foreign policy tree. It diverges from the second half onwards. Povner will seek to conquer Herzland and punish the Griffons for their crimes, so that history will no longer repeat and the faithful will no longer suffer under the Griffons.
Notable foci:
- Stockpile Arsenic: Unlocks the decision Poison the Griffking River. The decision can be taken if the country is at war with the Griffonian Empire, and requires 100 PP. If taken, Povner will poison the Griffking River with arsenic, killing large amounts of Griffon civilians. The Empire gets the national spirit Mass Arsenic Poisoning, which lasts for two months.
- Mass Arsenic Poisoning
- Monthly Population: -200%
- Recruitable Population Factor: -15%
- Division Recovery Rate: -30%
- The Black Book: Unlocks the decision Act Upon the Black Book. The decision can be taken if the country is at war with the Griffonian Empire, and requires 100 PP. If taken, Povner will send out fanatical fighters to assassinate the Empire's government and military officials. The Empire gets the national spirit Assassinated Officials, which lasts for six months.
- Assassinated Officials
- Division Organization: -5%
- Division Attack: -10%
- Division Defense: -10%
- Daily Command Power Gain Multiplier: -25%
- An Army of Fanatics: Raises 6 Fanatics divisions consisting of 10 Infantry battalions and with Veteran training level.
- Burn the Herzland: Povner will declare war on all original countries in the Herzland region.
- The focus will be bypassed if the Griffonian Empire does not exist, meaning that Povner needs to manually justify a war goal on the Herzland.
After conquering Griffenheim, Povner will unlock the decision Burn down Griffenheim (costs 75 PP and takes 60 days to complete), which will utterly destroy the core provinces of the Griffonian Empire and enact vengeance upon the Griffons by extracting a life for every pony life they took.
Effects of Burn down Griffenheim:
- Griffenheim's ponypower will reduce by 500,000.
- Crona, Interriver, and Helheim's ponypower will reduce by 150,000 each.
- Griffenheim's victory points will be set to 15.
- All military factories will be removed from Griffenheim, Crona, Interriver, and Helheim. Each state will also have several civilian factories removed.
After Povner enacts his vengeance against Herzland, he will depart from his position and Ludwig von Pliater will take over as the leader of the country. Another decision, Morgenclaw Plan, will be unlocked (costs 50 PP and takes 60 days to complete). The Morgenclaw Plan will partition the Herzland region into multiple reconstruction authorities, some of which will permanently rebuild and destroy industry in the Herzland, leaving the region eternally unindustrialized and never again be able to wage war.
When the Morgenclaw Plan completes, five puppet states will be released:
- The Northern Herzland Reconstruction Authority in Feathisia, Strawberry, and Greifenmarschen
- The Southern Herzland Reconstruction Authority in Yale, Angriver, and Katerin
- The Griffenheim Occupation Authority in Griffenheim
- The Bronzehill Occupation Authority in Bronzehill
- The Romau Occupation Authority in Greater Romau
All of them will have generic Griffon focus trees.
The Griffenheim, Bronzehill, and Romau Occupation Authorities have the national spirit Morgenclaw Plan - Main Provision 1, which will harshly punish these regions due to their key role in creating the Imperial system.
- Morgenclaw Plan - Main Provision 1
- Division Organization: -20%
- Monthly Population: -50%
- Recruitable Population Factor: -60%
- Consumer Goods Factories: 20%
- Construction Speed: -100%
- Division Attack: -20%
- Division Defense: -20%
- Factory Output: -80%
- Factory Repair Speed: -100%
The Northern and Southern Herzland Reconstruction Authorities have the national spirit Morgenclaw Plan - Main Provision 2, which delivers a lighter punishment due to their distance from the core of the Imperial system.
- Morgenclaw Plan - Main Provision 2
- Division Organization: -10%
- Monthly Population: -25%
- Recruitable Population Factor: -30%
- Consumer Goods Factories: 10%
- Construction Speed: -50%

Industry, Military, and Foreign Policy Trees
- Industry Tree
Lemiamas Šuolis is the Longsword Liberation Army's industry focus tree branch. Focuses in this branch of the focus tree gradually weaken the negative effects of Recovery from the Civil War, and will eventually remove it.
Taking the focus Lemiamas Šuolis activates a mission of the same name. The pre-industrial Longsword has launched a large modernization program named "Fateful Leap": the country will industrialize and defeat illiteracy in three years. The mission has a timer of three years (1095 days to be exact), and to complete, Longsword needs to have:
- More than 15 total factories
- Researched Improved Machine Tools, Concentrated Industry I or Dispersed Industry I, and Construction I.
- The Negligible Illiteracy level of literacy development
- Completed the focuses Urbanization, Grain for Machinery, and Santaka Central Industrial Region
If the mission is completed, Longsword will gain 200 PP and 20% base stability, and the society development level will increase. If the mission fails, Longsword will lose 200 PP and 20% base stability. The mission will automatically fail if Longsword is at war with one of their neighboring nations.
Several focuses in this focus tree grant decisions that grant factories and infrastructure when taken.
- Fate of the Rosewood Order
Fate of the Rosewood Order, a focus shared between all political paths of the LLA, will have the ponies decide on what to do with the Griffon Rosewood Order.
- Their forces can be integrated into the Longsword Liberation Army, which raises a Rosewood Knight Chapter division with 6 Griffon Knights battalions and 1 Recon support group.
- Alternatively, their holdings can be expropriated, which adds 5% base stability and 1 Military Factory in Swordsson.
Povner can only expropriate the Rosewood Order.
- Military Tree
The LLA's main military tree is under the focus Longsword Liberation Army. It consists of an army branch and an air force branch. The army branch is sub-divided into an offensive path and a defensive path.
Notable foci:
- Griffon Technology Research: Unlocks Griffon Technology Research decisions; these decisions allow the LLA to research the Griffons' Griffon Knights and Enchanted Tools technologies despite being a Pony nation.
- Researching one technology costs 50 PP and takes 200 days to complete, during which the decision costs 5% Consumer Goods Factories and -10% Research Speed. Only one Griffon technology can be researched at a time.
- The "Research Griffon Knights Technology" decision will progress through all Griffon Knight technologies in the following order: Knights Division II, Commoner Recruits, Fighting Spirit, Knights Division III, and Knights Division V, Knights Division V, and Knights Division VI.
- Duke Žemaitukas Military Academy: Adds 1 research slot, and increases Scientific Development level.
- Shock and Awe: All Army Leaders add 1 Attack Skill.
- Šarvuočių rinktinė: Raises an Armored Battalion division with 3 Light Armor battalions, 2 Infantry battalions, and 1 Support Artillery.
- Nationwide Defense Planning/Live Combat Exercises: 2x 100% research bonus for Land Doctrine. The two focuses are located in mutually exclusive offensive/defensive paths.
- The Starry Line: Fortifies the entire northern and eastern border with Ordensstaat Hellquill and Lake City with 2 land forts. Note that the focus takes twice as long to finish as compared to a normal focus in the LLA's tree, at 84 days instead of 42 days.
- Foreign Policy Tree
Longsword's foreign policy focuses on reuniting the Frontier by annexing Hellquill and then joining an ideologically compatible faction.
Notable foci:
- Free the Ponies of Hellquil: If Hellquill is fascist, Longsword will receive an annex war goal on Hellquill.
- This focus cannot be taken if the mission Lemiamas Šuolis is active.
- Integrate Hellquill: Allows Hellquill's states to be occupied with Integration law and cored by Longsword when their compliance reaches 40%.
- Declare the Vartai Republic: The country will be renamed: The Red Faction will rename the country to the Socialist Federative Republic of Vartai, while the White Faction wil rename the country to the Vartai Republic.
- The focus also increases Society Development level.
- An event will fire where Vartai will decide on the location of its capital: the capital can be moved to Swordsson, Hellquill, or remain in Visaginas. If the capital is moved, then the new capital (Swordsson or Hellquill) will be renamed to Vienybė. The event also grants 1 Civilian Factory.
- Fate of the Reformisten: The Reformisten rank and file can be either executed or incarcerated. Execution adds 10% base stability and removes 600 ponypower from each of the four the Hellquillian states. Incarceration will remove 5% base stability.
- Povner can only execute the Reformisten.
- Rebuild Hellquill: Unlocks Northern Vartai Reconstruction Committee decisions, which grant factories and infrastructure when taken.
- Our Future in Griffonia: The country will seek allies depending on its political path. New decisions will be revealed in the Foreign Policy folder if certain ideologically compatible factions exist.
- The Red Faction can seek to join the Griffon Liberation Alliance (led by the Griffon Liberation Army).
- The White Faction can seek to join the River Coalition (if their leading country is Harmonist).

Born: 24th of April, 958 in Swordsson
Rank: Count of Longsword Biography: The current head of the noble Dusktalon family, Pallas assumed leadership not long after the County of Longsword declared independence from the Griffonian Empire. At first, he was content to continue the proud Longswordian tradition, but everything changed when he came in contact with the growing group of knights who called themselves the Reformisten. Their ideology and way of thought completely changed Pallas, and he set forth to implement their policies in Longsword, which culminated in the current bloodshed against the ponies. His single minded zeal towards achieving purity in Longsword compensates for his lack of proper leadership qualities, resulting in a dangerous obsession for attaining his dream, at any cost. Born: 15th of August, 982 in Zeltstadt
Biography: Former second-in-command to Count Dusktalon, Rosa Heidenreich was one of his earliest supporters when he began spreading the Reformisten values through Longsword. It was her hard work and dedication that got her to this position, and although some would say Rosa had the Count's personal interest, she vehemently denies any of that and insists it was through merit alone. Regardless, having spent many nights ruminating on the failures of the Reformisten ideology, it wasn't a light decision for her to overthrow the Count after their victory in the civil war. She now leads the former Black Cloaks as a ruthless bandit leader, free of any previous trappings, and interested only in extracting riches from others. Portrait By: Scroup |

Born:
December 11th, 971 Varėna Countryside, County of Longsword Biography: Starry Night never thought she'd be any more than a footnote in history. Born a foal of a locksmith and a farmer in the forested Longswordian south, she had a rather simple and idyllic childhood, composed of monotonous farming, hunting, and studying her father's craft. Her village did note that she was rather bright, she taught herself how to read by studying the religious texts of the village's Arcturian priest, for example, but neither she nor her family ever imagined that she'd end up leading a country. Not long after Count Dusktalon's regime turned towards senseless bloodshed, however, swarms of Reformisten descended upon her village, intent to round up and murder everypony. Armed with her father's hunting rifle, the 20-year old Starry was the first to rise in resistance, helped the few survivors escape, and swore as she watched her burning home to vanquish the Count's murderous regime by her own hoof. She became a member of the Longswordian Liberation Army and soon rose to command the Visaginas Partisan District, striking against the Count and his lackeys from the foliage of the forests like their ancestors had done for centuries. Fearless, rumored to be invincible by her enemies, and speaking of a bright future free of fear, free of death and free of want, Starry Night has inspired many over the years. Any member of the Partisan movement, no matter where their allegiances lie, holds deep respect for her. As fearless and intimidating Longsword's greatest heroine makes herself out to be, however, even years of lead have not eroded the plain mare she is underneath. She is compassionate towards her comrades, always willing to hear them out and staunchly idealistic, to the point where she seems impressionable at times. To her, the Partisan struggle is not just one of freedom - it is one of building a better, ideal future upon those foundations. The future which the Reformisten ripped out of her hooves. Born:
July 19th, 960 Swordsson, County of Longsword Biography: Flawless Justice was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, to a lineage of Longswordian Kings - the descendants of the Longswordian pony nobility which ruled the land before the Empire's invasion, and were allowed to keep some of their power and privileges under the House of Dusktalon. Flawless Justice himself claims to descend from the house of Grand Duke Žemaitukas himself, the last ruler of Longsword, who united the pony tribes under one nation and fought a futile resistance against Grover II. Though his descendants never forgot this humiliation, they bent to the conqueror and his puppet in Swordsson like all of their peers. As long as he were to continue to safeguard their rights and traditions. Not long after Flawless Justice finished education in Griffenheim and returned home, the Empire collapsed, Longsword broke free, and soon came under the bloody claw of Count Pallas and the Reformisten. All the contracts and pledges which the Longswordian Kings held towards the House of Dusktalon vanished overnight, and this privileged class was now hunted down like the rest. The young noble, like many of his peers, chose to resist, moving to the forests and joining the Longswordian Liberation Army. There, they formed the White Faction, fighting for a free, traditional, harmonious Longsword, a restoration of the idyllic past which once was. Far from humble, Flawless Justice only barely tolerated working with the commoners and peasants before, and he does even less so now, when they claim of a desire to move into politics and pursue their ideological goals. The Longsword he heard about from romantic tales was simple and harmonious - those with blue blood govern with compassion, those below work for the good of the community. And it cannot be any other way. Portrait By: Twotail813 |

Born:
October 4th, 976 Visaginas Countryside, County of Longsword Biography: Being born to a village of Posniaks - ponies who converted to the Archonite faith and accepted griffon customs over centuries of cultural integration - did not save Golden Morning from a childhood of suffering. At a young age, he had to escape to the forests with a handful of survivors from his village, fleeing the Black Cloaks and their rampage - the image of senseless slaughter, death, and an end to the peace he knew his whole life remained imprinted in his mind for long. Before Morning could starve to death far away from civilization, he was rescued by a small group of partisans led by Starry Night, an officer recently inducted into the Longsword Liberation Army. Lacking any option, he joined the IIA, becoming an officer himself and developing a close personal relationship with the mare who would eventually become Longsword's greatest heroine. Ferocious, determined, and lacking a sense of self-preservation, Morning gained the trust of his fellow Partisans as a loyal and competent commander. His heart never found reprieve, however. What do creatures find in war, what pushes them to murder each other senselessly, eradicate their fellow creatures just because of their species, and achieve nothing but loss to all? His broken mind began to speak back to him - and it informed him that time is growing scarce. Griffonia, divided between two worlds, East and West, has always been at its own throats, these two worlds have always fought, but if this wheel of time continues any further, the end of the world as we know it will come. Only Longsword has the potential to put an end to this agony - here, in the forests of the Frontier, ponies and griffons managed to co-exist and create a super-culture, one which borrows superior traits from the griffons and Riverponies alike. This super-culture has a destiny to expand to encompass all of Griffonia - or die trying, and so watch the continent decay into nothing. A circle of followers gathered around Morning, the "Naujoji Grifonija" ("New Griffonia") movement, the first entity somewhat resembling a political party on Longswordian soil - and it shall stop at no sacrifice to achieve Longsword's prophetic destiny. Soldier of the Gods

[ACCESS GRANTED]
Born: [UNKNOWN] Biography: Even among all the eccentric and strange figures which were born from the circumstances created by the brutal regime of Count Pallas and his Reformisten supporters, Abba Povner is an exception. According to comrade Starry Night and Povner himself, Abba was but another rural pony youth who sometimes dabbled in poetry and religious literature, who was later on inspired to take up arms against the Black Cloak regime in defence of this faith and in order to avenge the fallen faithful. He then rose through the ranks, becoming one of the most recognized members of the IIA due to both his skill with a rifle and command ability. However there are claims and rumors spreading around the ponies and griffons of Longsword that there is far more to Povner than simply some religious partisan... Some of the older guerrillas claim that Povner has to be a some sort of phantom, for he appeared out of nowhere one day, already a military leader with a following of religious zealots and repenters, that they had never seen or heard of anyone like this. Others claim that he is surely not a pony, at least not a living one, for they have seen him slain a dozen times, by bullet or by blade, and yet still persisting in the mortal world. Yet others claim that he cannot be hurt, for no bullet or blade can penetrate his hide. There are even claims that Povner has mystical powers more comparable to the precognitive abilities of the deer seers, than anything like pony magic. While Starry Night dismisses any such rumors, both Povner's most devout followers and greatest enemies believe them fully. But while the pony zealots and griffon converts that follow Abba claim that these are divine blessings, be it from Varėnė or lesser regional divinities, and that he is truly the soldier of the gods, his enemies claim that Abba is a practitioner of forbidden, dark magics or even necromancy, which he uses to cheat death and subjugate the minds of others. Of course, none of them dare to make such claims to him in person. However, while his past is shrouded in mystery and even his present is questioned by both friend and enemy alike, if Povner's own claims are anything to go by, the future is set in stone. The black cloaks... the griffon supremacists that allowed them to rise... the accursed Imperials whose doctrines led to their creation... they will pay for each and every Longswordian faithful that they killed. Born:
Date unknown, around 950-960 Possibly Haarsingen, County of Longsword Biography: The newest in a long line of Grand Masters of the Order of the Rosewood Spear, Konrada Wavewing has a lot of expectations to live up to. Alongside their peers to the north, the Knightly Order of Hellquill, the Rosewood Order had followed Grover II in the Crusades east and were granted lands in modern day Haarsingen as a result. Unlike Hellquill, however, they did not have a nation to call their own, instead working alongside the Dusktalon dynasty in the defense of the Frontier. When the latest Count of Longsword went mad, Wavewing chose to form the Kamarilla and conspired with General Conrad Silvertalon to overthrow him. It was the only breach of the knightly virtue of loyalty she allowed herself to make. The creatures of Longsword are allowed to know very little about the Grand Mistress and her past - not that she knows much about it herself - but what they do know is that she is a presence to be feared. Not because she may be a bloodthirsty monster or a ruthless tyrant, but because her stoic demeanor and permanent scowl demand respect and freeze the heart of even the most hot-headed knight. In a world which turns increasingly chaotic and unjust, Wavewing sees herself as an anchor which can lead Longsword back to normalcy, if only she lives and breathes knightly virtue. Portrait By: Kajko |

Born:
February 3rd, 940 Haarsingen, County of Longsword Biography: Ever since the era of the Crusades, the Silvertalon lineage gave their lives in the service of Longsword, and thus, as they believed, all of Griffonkind. Originally from Katerin, the ancestors of the family served in the retinue of Grover II, fighting in his numerous wars against the Riverponies - and when the great Emperor died, they retreated with the rest. Instead of returning to Katerin, however, they settled in what is today Longsword, and have served the County since then. Conrad Silvertalon is merely the last in a long tradition, a soldier from birth who followed the path of his father, fought in the eternal border conflict with the Riverponies, and achieved the rank of General he deserved. The new Count, Pallas, was different. When he came to power, Conrad Silvertalon had only recently been promoted to General, and watched the young monarch assume his position with promise. And then, he was forced to stand back and watch the traditions he held dear be dismantled, and the fanatics from Hellquill storm across the Griffking to establish their new order of affairs. The general never held that much sympathy towards the ponies, but seeing them brutalized, radicalized, and Longsword run down by Pallas's leadership eventually broke his loyalties. Understanding that Count Pallas will only lead Longsword to ruin, he chose to resist, forming an anti-Reformisten kamarilla with Hochmeisterin Konrada Wavewing to set Longsword back towards the track it deserves to take. See description:
Born: July 15th, 960 Plummen Manor, County of Longsword Over time, this nurtured frustration in the griff, one which he expressed in greater and greater hatred towards ponies and "traitors". Instead of inheriting the family estate, he was commissioned to the Longswordian Army, and rose to the rank of commander thanks to his lineage - but he always believed himself to be entitled to more. Reformisten ideology thus easily swayed him to its side. Plummen loyally serves the Count even as he drives the nation closer and closer to civil war, as he believes that the Black Cloaks will emerge victorious in the aftermath and he will be awarded with riches, status and more. To the ponies of Longsword, however, he is a horror, gleefully decimating villages and towns if they step out of line, or even if they don't. Portrait By: Fly |

Rene "Stratég" Hora |
See description:
If you glanced your eyes for a first time at him, Rene looks and acts like a professional general should: he is well dressed and elegant griffon, able to even strike a few jokes when situation allows it. However, all this manners get thrown out of window once somegriff even remotely mentions Aquileia.
To say that Rene hates Aquileians is like to say nothing. All his life's fate brought him close to them, each time bringing him some sort of existential anguish. First his father's marketplace went bankrupt, only to be immediately sold to a wealthier Aquileian noble, then the love of his life got swayed away by a another handsome Aquileian, with a nail to the coffin being a near-death accident in which he got run over by a trader's cart that got let lose from the hill, Rene survived that but he already knew who was responsible for that, thinking that now Aquileians planned "to kill him". Some would had dismissed those random connections to one nationality, thinking it as a harsh twist of fate, but to Rene it was something more, it was a conspiracy. In his hate, Rene convinced himself that there must be some sort of Aquileian infiltration that observed him ever since he was born, thinking that Empire was in fact run by a "Aquileian World Order". In his paranoia, Rene decided to flee his homeland of Greifenmarschen to his distant family in County of Longsword, focusing on getting away from his "assassins". There, thanks to his letter exchange with prominent Longswordian generals and positive opinion on his unusual military tactics allowed him to be retain his title of general, just now serving under the symbol of sword and rose. Despite his new loyalties and self-imposed exile, Rene still has Herzlander sympathies, and if his nation will need help he will try and fight for what is right... and against those pesky baguette eating schemers too. Lite Fire |
See description:
Born: 982 Kingdom of Wittenland Biography: Lite was born in the distant East in 982 ALB, and had a tough life - losing his parents at young age caused him to live his childhood in an orphanage, only to be captured by the Barrad Pentarchy in the age of 13. Prior to his escape, he was experimented on in painful ways, causing him to develop enormous wings. The road to Longsword was indeed long and sword-related - he would have to fight his way to the country where he thought he would be safe from the chase. A lot of forest combat and in-chase tactics left him quite experienced in both by the time he finally arrived in Longsword, where his wounded, malnourished, exhausted body was picked up by pony resistance - he was actually planning on moving forward (which turned out to be north-west) but he was just too weak to go further. There he would heal up, learn how to live in society and showed surprising experience in forest tactics and planning which he learned during his captivity and escape, which gave him a reputation as a talented leader in the Longswordian Liberation Army. During the Longswordian Civil War he rose up with the rest of the ponies and griffon for the victory of Communism and achieving his dream - a world where no creature would be suppressed like Longswordian ponies once were. |

Ludwig von Pliater |
See description:
Born: 965 Principality of Lushi Biography: Originally from the Principality of Lushi, Ludwig von Pliater grew up hearing stories about the gallant griffon knights and dreaming about becoming one himself. Due to these fantasies he eventually traveled to Longsword in order to join the crusade against what he then believed to be a threat to griffonkind. However, instead of a righteous knightly campaign in the name of Arcturius, Ludwig would only find a massacre of innocents by the mad Reformisten. In such a position, the idealist made a choice. He deserted from the knightly order and joined the partisans to fight against such injustice. Years of fighting the Black Cloaks have changed Ludwig, shattering his idealism and faith in griffon divinities. However his determination and ferocity are even greater than before as the vow to the goddess Varėnė, to avenge all the innocents slain, pushes him forward. Portrait By: Twotail813 |

Nakties Šalna |
See description:
Born: October 4th, 977 Vėžys, County of Longsword Biography: Nakties Šalna was born a peasant in southern Longsword, and her first step towards a military career was no different from many of her comrades - in the form of a Reformisten raiding party designating her village as a killzone and opening fire. In the midst of chaos, fire and death, the seven year old mare was taken from her home by her uncle and carried to safety in the forests. The visage of bloodthirsty, black-cloaked Griffons burning everything in sight was imprinted in her mind, even if she was too young to understand what's happening at the time. The event left Šalna without purpose - her family was dead and her farm was gone; and it left her questioning the world and the idyllic life she used to have. Lacking any other options, she grew up alongside the Partisans and trained to become a warrior in her own right. In the Longswordian Liberation Army, Šalna was assigned to Golden Morning's squad and quickly grew attached to him. In the future leader of Naujoji Grifonija, she found everything she needed - an ideology to fill the void in her heart, a strong and mysterious stallion to learn more about, and a charismatic speaker who could convince her to do anything. Šalna became one of his followers, but her relationship towards him went far deeper than anyone else - it devolved into mania, psychotic mania, a fervent desire to get Morning to pay attention to her and solely to her, even as the stallion was clearly more interested in someone else. Lacking any other way to channel her emotions, she turned even more towards the art of war, gaining a reputation as a psychotic soldier who eschews any value to her life if it means the Vadeiva will give her a glance. Felix Birkeland |

Born: January 1st, 971 Falkshavn, Kingdom of Olenia Biography: Felix Birkeland is an unusual sight in Longsword being neither pony nor Griffon but a deer. An even more unusual sight is the CEO of the Twizanyika Salt Co. fighting for the Longsword Liberation Army. Born to moderately wealthy parents on the Northwestern coast of Olenia, Birkeland experienced an uneventful childhood of mild luxury before working for his father's mining company in a sinecure position. Desperate for adventure and in despair at the rampant corruption of the Olenian government, he joined a small-scale communist guerilla group operating in the thick wilderness of Olenia's forests and gained experience in irregular warfare while also serving as the editor of its small newspaper, Left Alternative. After vicious government crackdowns, Birkeland would flee Olenia to serve as an advisor in irregular warfare to various disparate rebel groups and other freedom fighters across the world. Perhaps it's no doubt that Birkeland would then arrive in Longsword, having already held prior sympathies to the Longsword Liberation Front and the persecuted ponies. Already experienced in forest-based guerilla warfare, Birkeland initially joined the IIA as an advisor in various irregular tactics and combat techniques. Ironically, despite his experience Birkeland is an average strategist at best, preferring drawing up documents in bunkers over fighting on the battlefield. But after accepting an officer post he quickly rose through the ranks to become a general of the IIA, in the fight for freedom. While Birkeland is an unusual figure in the resistance, his commitment to the ideals of freedom drive him to fight for a better world, one nation at a time. Portrait By: Ryan |

Silver Sunset |
See description:
Born: July 6th, 970 Visaginas, County of Longsword Biography: Silver Sunset's Partisan life had a somewhat different start from her peers. The daughter of a collaborator local businesspony in Visaginas, she became the Liberation Army's contact in the city in defiance to her father, conveying information and siphoning supplies for Partisan stockpiles. When she was discovered, she was forced to flee, and was rescued out of certain doom by Golden Morning's regiment - the reason why she still believes she owes a debt to him. In the Naujoji Grifonija movement, she is one of his top lieutenants and a military commander in her own right, but her approach differs from him like day and night. Morning is an idealist, while Sunset considers herself a mare of practice. He dreams of a better future for all creaturekind, while she cynically crafts authoritarian legislation to shift the movement's ideology towards what she perceives as a more sensible direction. The years of lead may have hardened the democratic convictions of some Partisans, but for Sunset, it is only proof that a strong hoof regime can heal the scars of the Genocide, and prevent such horror from happening again. And if she can serve as its shadow conductor, all the better. Portrait By: Fly |
