The Land of Blood and Wine
Long before Lunar Banishment, many griffon tribes were living in Southwestern Griffonia, a land of blood and wine. While the Kingdom of Sparleos had conquered almost half of the Southern Griffonia, these tribes were lucky to avoid their fate of being annexed by King Arantigos Featherin. After centuries, these tribes slowly developed a common nation consciousness in 0 ALB,considering themselves as the "Aquileian", and the Kingdom of Aquileia was established one century later.
Battle of the Three Kings
Little of Aquileia's history before the 8th century is known, beyond it being one of the oldest civilizations on the continent, existing long before the birth of the Griffonian Empire.
In 705 ALB, Grover I defeated the Kings of both the Kingdom of Aquileia and Wingbardy, unifying the major powers of the continent under the Griffonian Empire, with Kaiser Grover I at its head.
Rebellion Against the Empire
In 785 ALB, Grover I dies and Grover II takes the throne. Grover II lacked the diplomatic skill and ability his predecessor had and as a result many expected the Griffonian Empire to fall apart. The Discrets led Aquileia in a rebellion against the Empire the day after Grover I's death, expecting many kingdoms, duchies and counties in the Empire to follow.
However, the Discrets underestimated the Empire as the Imperial Army was still incredibly powerful and Grover II while lacking in diplomatic skill, had great military ability. The rebelling forces would suffer several crushing defeats and several cities including Vyzima were burned to the ground.
With the defeats in the field and Aquileia getting destroyed. The Discrets overthrew their King who started the rebellion and sent him as a prisoner to the Griffonian Empire where he would be personally beaten to death by Grover II. Aquileia would soon rejoin the Griffonian Empire and the rebellion was over.
In order to ensure a similar disastrous rebellion would not happen again, the Discrets attempted to get a marriage alliance with Grover II. The proposal was accepted and the marriage of Grover II and Princess Giselda Discret would occur in the ruins of the Temple of Arcturius in Aquila. Giselda's diplomatic skills would help Grover II secure his reign but it would earn the eternal ire of Aquileia on the Grover dynasty.
The Aquileian Kingdom
In 964 ALB, Emperor Grover IV died of a stroke, giving the throne to a young, inexperienced, ten-years-old Grover V, a regency was then established to rule over the Griffonian Empire.
In 971 ALB, Wingbardy became the first nation to officially secede from the Empire, beginning the empire's collapse. Aquileia followed soon after. Aquileia was established again as a Kingdom by King Gerad Discret. Much of the land was given to his vassals, all relatives or close friends. Initially stable, the Kingdom quickly groaned under unrest, debt, and famine.
The First Revolution
In 980, in the wake of the Griffonian Revolution, griffons disgruntled with the ruling Discret dynasty, which had recently declared its independence from the crumbling Empire, launched an uprising aimed at ousting the king from power. To the surprise of many, it succeeded, and for five years, Aquileia was a republic under the leadership of Théodore Vérany. However, many subjects such as County of Greifwald and Pomovarra broke free in the chaos and declared independence.
Life under the Republic largely improved as famine gradually decreased and the economy stabilised. Griffons today talk fondly of this "Golden Age".
The Reign of Terror
However, in 985, a group of monarchist officers and nobles led by Maréchal Albert Berthelot launched a counter-revolution which quickly defeated the republican resistance and returned the Discrets to the throne of Aquileia. What followed was later called the Reign of Terror - a wide-reaching purge of republican and democratic sympathisers. Some managed to escape to various foreign countries, including Equestria.
With the rule of King Moriset Discret still shaky, and most of the country opposed to his rule, the monarchist government had no choice but to maintain some of the newly gained rights and freedoms of the common griffon. In order to bring the Kingdom under control, the King granted more autonomy to the duchies and counties of Aquileia, placing his relatives in charge.
A Second Revolution?
Today, the King sits uneasy on his throne. The republican spirit lives on throughout the country and the King only weakly controls his vassals. The country sits on a knife edge, with various factions fighting for the outcome.
Revolutionary Factions
With various parties and groups forming an uneasy alliance against the monarchy, two main factions have came out as the leaders of the movement.
The first one is an urban-based, liberal Front des Jeunes Aquileia (Young Aquileia Front) headed by a veteran of the first revolution, Théodore Vérany.
The second party is the communist Partie Aquileian Travailleurs (Aquileilan Worker’s Party) It is split into two factions
- The moderate faction lead by Cécile Gaudreau, wanting to implement a socialist welfare state with a mixed economy;
- And the radical faction headed by Victor Allard - having fought in the Stalliongradian revolution, his ideology has been shaped by the thoughts of Steel Stallion and Sinister Serov, and he is determined to rapidly build a strong state in order to deal with the reactionaries once and for all.
Monarchist Faction
The strongest monarchist is of course, The King himself, Moriset Discret. Although he only weakly controls the country, that is more than can be said for anyone else, and he has a loyal core of supporters. But perhaps most importantly, he is willing to implement a Second Reign of Terror if needed.
National Focus
The Aquileian Focus Tree consists of four trees at game start: the mutually exclusive monarchist and republican political trees (The Second Reign of Terror and Fight For Your Freedom!), an industrial tree (Finish the Coltbert Reforms), and a military tree (Aquileian Remilitarisation).
At the start of the game, only the political trees are unlocked. The industrial tree is unlocked when the Second Aquileian Revolution has finished. The military tree is unlocked if the Second Aquileian Revolution has begun or if it has finished through decisions.
The Second Reign of Terror (Non-Aligned)
The first section of the focus tree is the counter-revolution focus tree, as described in the gameplay section. Once the Revolution is defeated, you will be able to complete To Kill an Idea and progress with the rest of the tree.
Shortly after the Revolution has been crushed King Moriset will be assassinated and in his place his prodigious daughter, now Queen Vivienne Discret, will start her rule.
The rest of the tree will have you consolidate the Discret's hold on Aquileia and start to modernize the country. Integrate the Loyalists will have you attempt to peacefully annex the vassals which remained loyal to you during the Revolution, however, it is possible for them to refuse annexation and declare war on you.
Teach the People will over multiple years slowly raise the Literacy of Aquileia until it reaches Negligible levels. Other notable focuses are Académie Royale Des Sciences which will give you a Research Slot, Régiments de Mage which will unlock the support Mage Company, also The Beginnings of an Army and Grande Armeé which will give you increased Recruitable Population.
The central branch of the tree will grant war goals to reclaim and reintegrate the Périphérie and demand for Tarrin (see #Threats and Opportunities).
The Final Showdown can only be taken once all other focuses have been completed and either someone has united the Herzland (typically the Griffonian Empire) or it is the year of 1012. It'll give you war goals over all of the territory of the Herzland.
Vive L'Impératrice!
After winning the war for the Herzland and taking the decision Proclaim the Empire's Defeat, the post-Herzland focus tree will be loaded. The Herzland puppet will be released, though Aquileia will keep the initial cores of the Grand Duchy of Feathisia and Greifenmarschen.
The leftmost branch of this tree will deal with the so called Herzland Blues. Upon obtaining the new focuses, you will also receive a National Spirit with that name, it represents the resistance against Aquileia on the territories which you've kept for yourself. Through this branch you will be able to annex Skyfall and slowly Aquilinise the newly conquered territories, changing the name of the cities and states themselves. Once each state has gone through the 3 stage process of Aquilisation, you will be able to get cores on all of them and the National Spirit will be removed.
The two central branches are internally focused and will see you expanding the power on the crown, centralizing religious, administrative and monetary powers on Aquileia as well as extracting more resources from your puppets. A few of the focuses will also raise Compliance and lower Resistance on the newly acquired states, they will be skipped if you have completed the Aquilisation process. A few other notable focuses are The Romau Concordat which will give you the state of Romau, The Armée Glorieuse which will give you a further increase in Recruitable Population and A Spouse for an Empress which will allow Vivienne to seek out a partner.
The rightmost branch focuses on the rest of the continent and will give you a series of decisions that will see you declare war on most of Griffonia (the exceptions being New Mareland, the Dread League and the Arcturian Order). You will also have the option to release various puppets all over the continent via the L'Ordre Nouveau decisions.
Fight For Your Freedom! (Harmony/Communism/Non-Aligned/Supremacy)
The first section of the focus tree is the revolution focus tree, as described in the gameplay section. Once the revolution has triumphed, The Second Republic can be taken to progress to the rest of the focus tree.
Président Cru (Communism)
After having managed to win the Aquileian civil war against the monarchists and having elected Président Cru, the player will move to gain multiple Députés in the Assemblée Nationale d'Aquileia with some focuses giving out political and economic national buffs. It is essential for Aquileia to secure these national buffs as soon as possible, considering that the civil war damaged the country and almost destroyed it, which means that the player must draw its cards on the table if he wants to stabilize Aquileia after the storm. You will also unlock the universal path that allows you to gradually remove illiteracy, gain 1 extra research slot and unlock mage companies.
After finishing the Président Cru's path, the player will be able to start the focus Reclaim The Périphérie. This focus declares war on most of its neighbours. This war against Aquileian neighbours is easy as they are very small countries who lack a serious army or industry to oppose the player army.
After Reclaim The Périphérie, the player will progress through the focus The Shining Star of Socialism. This path may be considered a continuation of the political & economic path from before, giving out factories and modifying many national buffs or adding new ones while also unlocking decisions that can be used if you have enough Députés in the Assemblée Nationale d'Aquileia. It is also important to note that the player will be able to core its historical neighbours through the focus Integrate The Périphérie, giving out an important military and economic boost to the nation.
After having the player finished the political/economic path from The Shining Star of Socialism, Aquileia will be able to pick between 2 national focuses: On Our Own or The Cloudbury Connection.
On Our Own: Aquileia will gain a national focus that grants multiple army buffs and military construction speed, but you will miss an opportunity to ally to other harmonic nation.
The Cloudbury Connection: Aquileia will attempt to establish an alliance with Griffonian Republic to fight Griffonian Empire, it is more likely to accept depending on their diplomatic opinion and ideology on Aquileia.
After Aquileia has picked one of the two focus trees, they may get the last national focus from the tree: Ouvre La Porte. This national focus when finished, declares war on the Griffonian Empire if its resurgent or if another nation in Herzland has reunited the lands by itself. It is strongly recommended that the player has a strong army on its own, or if the player has taken the national focus The Cloudbury Connection, open many fronts against the Griffonian Empire to stretch over his army.
Président Gaudreau (Harmony)
After having managed to win the Aquileian civil war against the monarchists and having elected Président Gaudreau, the player will move through the harmonic path of Aquileia. The player will move to secure Députés in the Assemblée Nationale d'Aquileia which allows to take many decisions. The political & economic path also allows to remove illiteracy, gain research slots and unlock mage companies for the army.
Moving out of this path, the player will unlock the national focus Reclaim The Périphérie, which when finished, declares war on the historical Aquileian neighbours. This war is fairly easy as most of your neighbours are militarily and industrially weak.
After this war focus has been taken, the player will be able to progress through a new political path, A United Aquileia, giving out daily harmonic support. This will unlock many new national focuses that give new factories, modifies or adds new national buffs and there is also the universal part of the path, Integrate The Périphérie, allowing for the player to effectively core it's conquered neighbours through a new occupation law.
It is also possible for Aquileia to invade Republic of Tarrin through decisions if it's not already yours and the ability to core it through the Integration occupation law. You will also unlock the national focus The Liberation of Lointaineau, which declares war on the House Erie & House Avian and unlocks the ability to use the occupation law Integration for coring them after you have invaded them.
Having finished this load of national focuses, the player will be able to pick between 2 national focuses: On Our Own or The Cloudbury Connection.
Président Rodier (Supremacy)
After having managed to win the Aquileian civil war against the monarchists and having elected Président Rodier, the player will move through the supremacist path of Aquileia. As the rest of republican paths, you will secure many political and/or economical buffs for the nation while also gaining Députés in the Assemblée Nationale d'Aquileia for many political decisions. Meanwhile you will also unlock the universal republican path, allowing you to gradually remove mass illiteracy, gain extra research slots and unlock mage companies for the army.
Moving out of this path, the player will unlock the national focus Reclaim The Périphérie, which when finished, declares war on the historical Aquileian neighbours. This war is fairly easy as most of your neighbours are militarily and industrially weak.
Having managed to secure your historical neighbours, Aquileia will move to the continuation of the political/economical path of the republic, Visions Of Greatness, which gives daily supremacy support and unlocks the rest of the path. This path gives many factories, adds and/or modifies many national ideas while also unlocking the Integrate The Périphérie path, allowing you to core your historical neighbours through the Integration occupation law. If you continue this path, you will be able to deal with Republic of Tarrin (if it was not annexed by you already) through the national focus The Matter of Tarrin.
After that focus, you will unlock The Liberation of Lointaineau, which declares war on House Erie & House Avian and unlocks the ability to use the occupation law Integration for coring them after you have invaded them.
Having finished this load of national focuses, the player will be able to pick between 2 national focuses: On Our Own or The Cloudbury Connection.
On Our Own: Aquileia will gain a national focus that grants multiple army buffs and military construction speed, but you will miss an opportunity to ally to potential nations that may help against the Empire.
Président Vérany (Non-Aligned)
After having managed to win the Aquileian civil war against the monarchists and having elected Président Vérany, the player will start to move to a rather different starting path. You will see more militaristic-sided national focuses, although there is still many economic and political buffs which you will receive while progressing through the national tree, including Députés in the Assemblée Nationale d'Aquileia for many political decisions. Just like the rest of the republican presidents, you will receive the ability to gradually remove mass illiteracy, gain extra research slots and the ability to use mage companies on your divisions.
Moving out of this path, the player will unlock the national focus Reclaim The Périphérie, which when finished, declares war on the historical Aquileian neighbours. This war is fairly easy as most of your neighbours are militarily and industrially weak.
After conquering the historical Aquileian neighbours, the player will, as the rest of the republican presidents, unlock the next part of the political continuation of Aquileia with The Dream Isn't Dead. Aquileia under Vérany has many military and political buffs which will strenghten the nation for the incoming conflicts against the Empire and it's neighbours. You will, for the universal path, be able to core your conquered neighbours through Integrate The Périphérie and the ability to conquer the remaining of your sovereign neighbours, such as Republic of Tarrin (if it was not annexed into Aquileia already) by The Matter of Tarrin.
The Cloudbury Connection: Aquileia will attempt to establish an alliance with Griffonian Republic to fight Griffonian Empire, is very likely that a historical Griffonian Republic will accept to go into an alliance with Aquileia to fight back the Empire together.
Industrial Tree
"Finish the Coltbert Reforms" is Aquileia's economy tree, shared between all political paths. It grants positive national spirits, 1 research slot, unlocks decisions to prospect for resources and develop infrastructure, and some free factories.
Military Tree
The military tree consists of three branches: a naval branch, an army branch, and an air force branch.
- Naval Branch
The naval branch gives standard research bonuses for most naval technologies, and a choice of naval doctrine at the start. This section partially intersects with the Industrial tree, and the shipyard development focuses on the left side require taking some of the Industrial focuses to be unlocked.
- Army Branch
The army branch starts with a choice for a land doctrine. It follows then with the standard research bonuses towards infantry weapons, support technology, artillery and more. Some of the focuses also grant positive national spirits that improve the army's combat capabilities.
- Air Branch
The air branch again starts with a choice for an air doctrine. Focuses in this branch of the focus tree grant air technology research bonuses, resource production for aluminium and rubber, and national spirits that improve air combat efficiency.

The Revolution itself abolished the Discret Monarchy, and resulted in the proclamation of the First Aquileian Republic with Théodore Vérany at its head. Unfortunately, only five years after the Republic was created Marshal Berthelot led a counter-revolution which resulted in the Discret Restoration. In spite of the Restoration there are still many within the country who refuse to let go of the dream of an Aquileian Republic thus making King Moriset's hold on the country tenuous at best.

Biography: If there is one thing that can unite all Aquileia in harmony, it is wine. It is very much not Moriset Discret. A tyrant to all republicans, and a poor leader even to many monarchists, only the most zealous supporters of the monarchy praise him in both public and private. Moriset may not be the griffon at fault for causing the first revolution, but most believe he will be the one to cause the second. With his oppressive policies and harsh punishments, Moriset indulges the destruction of his enemies and the exaltation of himself, leading a court of luxury surrounded by an angry population. No one can quite tell when history will come for its revenge on Moriset, or how, but it will occur, someday and inevitably. Portrait by: bunnyshrubby |

National Hero
|
Born: June 20th, 950
Biography: Loved and hated, viewed with awe, fear, disgust, and plain hatred throughout Aquileia and beyond, Théodore Vérany would have it no other way. Known across the land as the de facto leader of the first Aquileian revolution, Vérany is likely the most famous individual in Aquileia besides the King himself. An absolutely magnetic personality, Vérany has gone his whole life attracting others to his words and message. A child to a newspaper distributor in the Capital, Vérany quickly learned his way around words from his father, and furthered this study by learning about rhetoric and philosophy in school. From the first time he spoke to a crowd, in his youth to petition for a longer recess, he had a sparkle in his eye, an inspirational spark that caused others to follow him, and he would put it to world-sundering use. No one is quite sure what got Vérany into republican thought. The griff himself admits he isn't quite sure either, but once he did, he immersed himself fully in the world of underground republicanism, joining all the groups he could to prepare for the day when the Imperials would be thrown out. But then, in 978, a griffon named Kemerskai beat him to the punch, throwing the Emperor out of his own capital. Triggering his planned uprising, Vérany assumed command of the republican cells throughout Aquila and got to work. Though this work didn't last very long. Exiled from his own land, Vérany lost the spark in his eye for the first, and last, time. Since then, he has loved and lost, and loved again, but has never forgotten about his homeland. And now, he has returned triumphant, ready to lead Aquileia into a new pan-griffonian dawn. Portrait By: Echo/Martin |

Harmonist Sympathies
Compassionate Grandee

Born: August 28th, 953
Biography: The Rose of Vinovia, a name invoking respect even amongst rivals and opponents, and a life journey of rejecting the past and embracing the future. Born to a Baron within Vinovia's hilly regions, the formerly destitute Gaudreau Barons struck metaphorical gold when veins of iron and coal were discovered on their properties. With industrialization in full swing, by the time Lady Cécile was born into the house, it was a very different place than when her father was born. An only child, her parents cared for her very much, but being that Cécile was quite a bookworm, even in her youth, they didn't worry much about her and let her live her own life. Meeting and playing with the local children, Cécile became perplexed and angry how whenever she mentioned her last name to the towns' people, they would suddenly treat her; differently, she became not a friend but an enemy. Whenever she'd try to help the workers at her family's mines or local villages, they would shy away in fear. The Gaudreaus were not tyrants, Cécile knew this, but because they were part of the nobility, the commonfolk detested them. And so, Cécile turned her focus to freeing her family name of this curse, and began to plan. When the uprising came, heralded by the Aquila rising led by the up-and-coming Vérany, Cécile persuaded her parents to "flee." Simultaneously, she took command of the local cells, guiding them in public under a pseudonym, while contacting monarchist army units in the region under her real name, and persuading them to give up without a fight or defect. But all was for naught, as the revolution failed and Cécile needed to flee. It would be a while before her parents heard from her again, but when they did, her message was clear, "Je reviendrai." Since then, her name has become famous amongst republicans, both for her evolving ideas, as well as her relationship with, then split from the famous Vérany. Their clash of egos and ideals has set the scene for modern politics in Aquileia, a battle that Cécile has come out on top. The time of the people is now, and the Gaudreau name is finally cleansed. The Maréchal
|
Born: May 28th, 962
Biography: The Maréchal, Hero, Traitor, the Linchpin of the revolution, the new republic's missing link. One griffon can indeed be all of these and yet also none. But to explore that would be a waste of time, as Léonard Rodier isn't one for pleasantries and long-winded stories anyway. Born in Vanguardigo in 962, Rodier was destined for military life one way or another. His family was poor, but they had earned their keep as soldiers for generations. His father had wished to end that, wanting to establish his family as small landowners in their rural region, but as the revolution and monarchist terror swept through their homes, there was no other place to go. So in 982, it was off to a military academy in Westkeep for Léonard, where he met a unique group. The MPA soon approached him on the academy's campus, noting his academic skills and strong personality, they welcomed him to their club. If only they could see him now, they would regret it. For his inviters were ardent monarchists, but as Rodier sunk deeper into the MPA, and began to rise through its ranks, he found hidden within it, new republican circles, which he was far more fond up than stuck up noble sons and daughters. After working with a certain Colonel Colette to cement a republican hold on the MPA, Rodier began to bide his time. He made connections with other republican groups, prepared for the exiles' return, and awaited the second revolution. So when his moment came, he was more than ready. Rallying the military from their barracks in the Capital, it was Rodier who seized the city and welcomed back the ever-popular Vérany, succeeding where the first revolution had failed. Now Rodier stands ready to build a new, strong Aquileia, based on his ideas of national strength and honor. Portrait by: Axidant |

Born: May 9th, 983
Biography: Born far from the kingdom her family ruled, Vivienne Discret's first memories were not of the royal halls of the palace in Aquileia, but of the warm white walls of the Saddle Arabian emir's court. Aquileia was in chaos, with the death throes of the Revolution turning the rivers red with blood. The Discret family tree had been sheared of its branches by the guillotine, leaving only five surviving dynasts to escape, with Vivienne as the future of the royal lineage. As forces loyal to the monarchy secured their kingdom for them, the royal family waited out the bloodshed from afar, safe from the chaos. When she finally returned to Aquileia, she was immediately surrounded with a veritable army of tutors and scholars. Given the disposition of her father, however, many doubted that the young princess would be keen to learn what they had to say. Fortunately, Vivienne took to her studies and learned well. Better still, they became her passion. The young griffoness read any books she could get her talons on, and touring the countryside became as important to her as her studies. All who met her found her charming and instantly disarming, her wit leaving them impressed for a griffon barely an adult. The nobility of Aquileia and those loyal to the crown knew that the kingdom would be in good claws when it was her turn to take the throne, and many hoped behind closed doors that some unfortunate accident would befall Moriset so his talented and ambitious daughter could take the throne. They would be granted their wish. With the Second Aquileian Revolution leaving King Moriset dead, the future of the kingdom lies in the claws of Princess Vivienne – now Queen Vivienne Discret. The Big Fellow
|
Born: March 18th, 962
Biography: Born in 962 in the Pridean dockyard district to a pair of pony parents, Cru was only 16 when the fire of revolution engulfed his city, but he was already at the center. A story involving him even says he was the pony to raise the commune's banner to the city's prison fortress, signaling the revolt's start. Unfortunately for the revolutionaries, Pridea became a slaughter ground as the guns of Dennis Discret destroyed their fledgling revolt. Cru only escaped the city with the help from an unlikely source, a fellow pony and an early MPA member who held republican sympathies. After being spirited away to the Capital, Cru became connected to a network of Republican stay-behinds who operated after the revolution. To support himself, he opened a barbershop, which became a hotbed of revolutionary action, as well as a place any Royal agents got trims, acting as excellent intelligence gathering. Over the years, Cru developed his ideas, wishing to apply the Pridean dream to all Aquileia. He envisioned a network of democratic socialist states across Griffonia and published books and pamphlets with his ideas, at first failing to realize the effect he was having on a revolution as a whole. He only realized his near fame when a young griffon asked him for an autograph one day in his barbershop, and after his horror abated, he decided he should embrace this, and try to take a more leading role in the revolution overall. Quickly becoming a leading force in the PAT's moderate wing, and getting his iconic nickname "The Big Fellow" for his friendly demeanor. Now Cru stands on top of his world, ready to guide the revolution to a place the old guard can not, and then make a way for a new generation of revolution for all his comrades Portrait by: bunnyshrubby |

Born: December 12, 963
Biography: During the first revolution, Thibault Devereux was apprenticed to a county clerk and had few political ambitions. Yet, during the reprisals against the revolutionaries in Pridea, he was dragged into it when a republican by the name of Felix Georges hid in his shed and his overzealous pursuers chose to not ask questions when they came looking for him. Wounded over the eye and barely escaping with his life alongside the republican, Thibault ended up fleeing to Skyfall. Felix and his compatriots, grateful for his aid welcomed him into their exiled family in gratitude for his help. Thibault had planned to create a new life of quiet in Skyfall, but kept getting dragged back into the orbit of the group. He was soon forced to choose between getting involved with them or see them bumble their way into prison or worse. This ramshackle introduction to the revolutionary cause contrasts sharply to his later accomplishments, as he quickly not only rose to the challenge, but became a noted writer and leader for the revolutionaries in exile. His series of pamphlets, "What do the republicans desire?" reached widespread acclaim and gave him a reputation as one of the great thinkers of the post-revolution era. Their methodical reasoning for how a post-revolutionary should be organized and the reasoning for them did much to rally support for the movement, especially when his conclusions came to line up neatly with those of Grand Cru, who began to correspond with Thibault and eventually recruited him into the P.A.T. Thibault has chosen to not speak about how the pamphlets were for himself as he tried to figure out what he even wanted, and that an overzealous Felix printed them without his knowledge. Thibault has now reached the highest position possible, and while he does not quite know how he achieved it, he knows that just like in Skyfall people depend on him. If all he can do is to do the best he can, then that is what he will do. Portrait by: Vanilla Swirl |

Biography: Victor Allard's story is an uniquely twisty and complicated one, and Allard does little to dispel the mysteries around his origin. Speaking with a carefully cultivated standard Aquileian accent and mixing expressions from across the nation, he appears as if he stepped out of the shadows one day. As far as most know him, he turned up at Grand Cru's barbershop one day and discussed politics with him at length. He soon became a regular, and even as many others would only stop by once or twice on occasion, he kept showing up. His own brand of revolutionary fervor was a radical such, and he advocated tactics of a kind much more brutal than the first revolution had seen. The two's intellectual sparring matches continued every week for several months, drawing many to the socialist movement itself as griffons came to watch and listen. Though Allard was at best suspicious of the moderate vision that Grand Cru presented, the many triumphs of the PAT both in Aquileia and against the Empire in recent years has changed his viewpoint of the system. And although his new much more moderate course has swayed many within the party, there are still many who remain dubious of his intentions. Those who approach him as friends find a charming, if acerbic, figure with a wry sense of humor and a keen, unique understanding of both politics and socialist ideology. Those who treat him as a potential villain see a smug griffon who seems to enjoy getting a rise out of people and play on their naivete. None of that matters to Allard, though. He will continue to lead Aquileia the way he always has: through logical socialist policies and decision-making. Or at least, what is logical to him. Portrait by: bunnyshrubby |

The Compassionate Revolutionary

Insufferable Genius

Born: May 2nd, 987
Biography: Born a decade after the year of revolutions, Sugar Crepe's childhood was marred by the consequences of the Aquileian republic. Living within the small pony enclave at the capital Aquilia, her parents tried to shelter her from the often hostile city environment. The "Boulevard des Poneys" in the capital was considered a reactionary neighborhood by the city's citizens, and the ponies who lived there were often regarded as violent monarchists. The truth, as always, was far more complex, but perception often matters more. Regardless of this stereotype, or perhaps even because of it, Sugar became obsessed with the revolution of 978 and began to join clubs that connected her with moderate republican elements. This soon merged with her other passion, music, and she began writing republican hymns like "Cette terre est voter terre" and the "Chanson Fontale Unie". But her fame really took off during the second revolution, where her fiery musical performances and powerful personality attracted many followers. Aligning herself with the FJA, many expected her to just serve as a party mouthpiece, but were quickly proven wrong when Cécile Gaudreau saw promise in the unicorn, and took her under her wing as a political protegé, and Sugar quickly proved she was an extremely intelligent individual. However, this is where Sugar Crepes more... eccentric personality traits came to the forefront. She loudly played music during some assemblé meetings, declaring the subject at claw not worth discussing as she already had the answer. She made a habit of purposefully infuriating Léonard Rodier at every opportunity, through even he can not deny her near genius. So even still, following Gaudreau's transfer of power, Sugar Crepe has been elected to lead the Aquileian republic into a new bright future, draped in Blue White and Red Portrait By: Neither |

The Hero Of The Revolution
|

Strategies and guides
Starting Situation
Aquileia starts as a regional power, with a very modest industry, totaling 14, with a ponypower pool of 30.58k griffons, and standing army of 12 divisions, though very well trained and experienced in combat, most notably, the Knights. The Aquileian Navy is the second-largest in West Griffonia after Skyfall, consisting of 2 Battlecruisers, 1 Battleship, 38 Destroyers, 1 Heavy Cruiser and 9 Light Cruisers, along with a small air force of 90 planes on par with those of the Griffonian Empire and Wingbardy. By annexing its vassals, Aquileia can quickly become an industrial power, reaching 34 factories without additional buildings being built. The tech Aquileia possesses is also weak, barely having anything more than the regular infantry, support equipment and artillery, along with the earliest planes possible.
Threats and Opportunities
- Griffonian Empire: A dangerous threat to the Aquileian nation, the Griffonian Empire can outmatch Aquileia in almost any way, the best course of action would be going down the Revolution path and then Harmonic one, forming an Entente against the growing Empire, or one would need to act very early, though with very crude technology, to defeat the Empire.
- Kingdom of Wingbardy: Stronger than Aquileia in any way at the start of the game, Wingbardy possesses a faction right on the Aquileian borders, allowing easy access for an invasion, Wingbardy has the choice to wage war against Aquileia by going down the communist path. Aqueilia will also seek to regain Tarrin from County of Francistria, who starts in the Karthinian Pact with Wingbardy.
- County of Greifwald, City of Flowena, Pomovarra, Free Territory of Adelart, House Erie, House Avian and Township of Fezera: These nations are the Aquileian Périphérie, former Aquileian territories that had since been lost, and are the main targets of Aquileia's expansion no matter which path Aquileia goes down. All political paths will receive war goals and opportunities to core these territories once they've reached 40% Compliance. They pose little danger to Aquileia, though some of them may ally with the Empire. Other times some have the choice to cooperate with Aquileia instead.
- Skyfall Trade Federation, Griffonian Republic: Depending on the political path taken, Skyfall and the Griffonian Republic will either be a loyal ally or a potential target for conquest.
The Second Aquileian Revolution
The Second Aquileian Revolution is the first major political event in any Aquileia playthrough. The first section of the focus tree for both the Monarchist ("The Second Reign of Terror" → "To Kill An Idea") and the Republican ("Fight For Your Freedom!" → "The Second Republic") focus trees focuses solely on managing the revolution.
Upon taking the first focus in the focus tree, ("The Second Reign of Terror" or "Fight For Your Freedom!"), a countdown of 365 days will start, and the revolution will begin when it expires. When the player takes a focus involving influencing the state of revolutionaries/monarchists in one of Aquileia's vassal states ( Pridea, Rila, Vinovia, and Westkeep), a corresponding decision screen showing the state of the revolutionaries in that vassal state will be unlocked. The relative monarchist and republican supports in each vassal state will be shown, alongside decisions to boost the support of the faction the player has aligned with.
The player will not have enough time to complete all focuses in the first section of their focus trees; when the revolution begins, all focuses in this section will be bypassed. As such, the player should prioritize focuses to make the revolution or counter-revolution as easy as possible.
Focuses in the revolution section grant many different bonuses, including additional friendly forces when the revolution begins, additional support to their faction in the vassal states, or for the Republicans, a chance to capture and execute King Moriset when the revolution starts. When the revolution begins, the vassal states with a majority support for the player's faction will remain on Aquileia's side, and the other vassal states will declare war on Aquileia. Winning this war will conclude the revolution and begin the next phase of the focus tree.
If the player manages to make their faction's support a majority in all four vassal states, then the revolution/counterrevolution will be immediately completed, averting the war and immediately progressing the player to the next phase of their focus tree.
L'Ordre Nouveau
All Aquileian political paths, aside from Théodore Vérany's path, share decisions to establish puppet states across Griffonia, should Aquileia conquer these territories. However, not all political paths grant war goals on all Griffonian territories, so manual war justification is needed for a continental conquest in these paths.
For all political paths aside from Théodore Vérany's path, the decision Proclaim The Empire's Defeat will be unlocked in this tab after annexing all of the Herzland region. The decision unlocks the post-Herzland focus tree of the player's political path, and will release a puppet Herzland state in the Herzland region, though some political paths will keep some Herzland territories for Aquilisation.
For Théodore Vérany, Vérany is a pan-Griffonian Republican in the vein of Alexander Kemerskai, and his equivalent decision to unlock the post-Herzland focus tree is instead named Hoist the Tricoluor. Being a pan-Griffonian, he also won't set up any regional Griffon puppet states.
Aquilisation & Herzland Blues
Vivienne and Rodier's political paths can unlock Aquilisation decisions to convert non-Aquileian parts of Griffonia into the Aquileian culture and core these territories.
Every state will need to go through three separate phases, while this proccess is taking effect you will lose political power so it may be worth saving up to do multiple states at once.
The Tarrin Situation
The region of Tarrin, currently owned by the County of Francistria, is a historically Aquileian region that was claimed and later annexed by Francistria during the Aquileian Revolution of 980. By 1007, the region is rife with Republican Tarrin separatists, who are seeking to secede from Francistria, create the independent Republic of Tarrin, and possibly rejoin a Republican Aquileia.
Should Tarrin separatists declare independence on its own, it may join Aquileia willingly, or declare war on Aquileia if Tarrin is Republican but Aquileia is Monarchist.
If Tarrin does not secede, all political paths in Aquileia will receive the option to demand Tarrin from Francistria; should the demand be refused, Aquileia will be able to launch a series of border wars to reclaim them, which may escalate into an all-out war between Francistria (and likely the Karthinian Pact) and Aquileia.
